  • A Heretic Cannot be Pope.

Let's get one thing strait so we can discuss the issue intelligently.  It makes no difference whether the purported pontiff is a formal or material heretic in regards to his papal validity.  What matters is whether he is a notorious/manifest/public heretic.  Some orthodox theologians maintain that even a private heretic cannot be Pope.  But all agree that public heretic cannot.  Formal/material does not even enter into the debate.  Re-read the original post and see for yourself.

Oh BTW Father Ratzinger is a formal heretic as he knowingly, as proved by his writtings, rejects what the Catholic Church has always taught on numerous doctrines including doubting  or calling into question whether Jesus actually physically rose from the dead or not.
"I receive Thee, redeeming Prince of my soul. Out of love for Thee have I studied, watched through many nights, and exerted myself: Thee did I preach and teach. I have never said aught against Thee. Nor do I persist stubbornly in my views. If I have ever expressed myself erroneously on this Sacrament, I submit to the judgement of the Holy Roman Church, in obedience of which I now part from this world." Saint Thomas Aquinas the greatest Doctor of the Church

  • You asserted as much.  Where's your evidence?  Or were you being rash?

  • I believe I started a thread at FE about this, using the quotes from the book itself.  I seem to recall having used an article from Mario Derksen (?) on this very topic.  That may, in fact, be where I got the quotes from Fr Ratzinger.
