Rank and file Protestants have an abiding desire to have everything okay in the Catholic Church and it is highly upsetting to them to hear that there are problems in the Catholic Church or that everything isn't okay in the Vatican. This has been the case all along. The regular Joes among Protestants take a lot of comfort in believing that the Catholic Church will always be there, a formidable edifice that marks history's landscape with its unavoidable presence. It is nothing short of terrifying to them to imagine a world without the Catholic Church.

I was thinking this as well. And just like the Indult needs the SSPX to be the ugly, fat kid "anchor man" in the Tug-of-War with the Modern World, so also the Prots are screwed if something ever happens to the Catholic Church. They get to have their more-or-less ordered "Christian society" because it's a degraded hand-me-down from real Catholicism. If it weren't for the Catholicism in the first place, the watered-down, degraded hand-me-down version wouldn't exist.
The Catholic Church had been an unmoving rock, a strong foundation for morality for centuries. Just look at what has happened to the world since the Catholic Church starting losing it in the 1960's! We've lost our moral compass, lost our bearings, and are sinking rapidly into collapse and anarchy.
Seriously, no joke, we don't have much time left. Just look at the collapse JUST IN THE LAST 5 or 10 years (SJWs, the "gender spectrum", an expansion of the pro-perversion movement currently up to LGBTQIA+, Trump Derangement Syndrome, the mainstream media coming out of the closet as open leftists, trigger warnings, free speech zones, fascism perpetrated by "antifa", leftist riots, George Soros, etc.)
