  • In the past few months it seems as if cathinfo has had some significant new members. So here is one of the biggest of them all. I do not believe Nogaret to have killed the Pope. The Pope dies on the eve of his intention to ex- comm the French Minister, but Nogaret's protection of the anti-pope Boniface from physical harm absolves the former from any acc of killing Benedict imo-- it ( despite the rep of one of his ancestors) seems as if it's not in his character.

  • I do not know of this. Who was Nogaret? Course I am an old timer I guess.

  • Here is the previous discussion of Boniface where Nogaret is profiled. I do not believe he would have murdered the Pope.

  • It is my historical conviction that the antics of Boniface are the cause of the GWS. Some think that Philip 'hijscked' the Papacy and caused the schism but I disagree.

  • My apologies as the above is slightly incorrect as the exile of the Popes in France is not the GWS-- the schism occurs upon the return of the Pope to Rome.
