In the past few months it seems as if cathinfo has had some significant new members. So here is one of the biggest of them all. I do not believe Nogaret to have killed the Pope. The Pope dies on the eve of his intention to ex- comm the French Minister, but Nogaret's protection of the anti-pope Boniface from physical harm absolves the former from any acc of killing Benedict imo-- it ( despite the rep of one of his ancestors) seems as if it's not in his character.

I do not know of this. Who was Nogaret? Course I am an old timer I guess.

Here is the previous discussion of Boniface where Nogaret is profiled. I do not believe he would have murdered the Pope.

It is my historical conviction that the antics of Boniface are the cause of the GWS. Some think that Philip 'hijscked' the Papacy and caused the schism but I disagree.

My apologies as the above is slightly incorrect as the exile of the Popes in France is not the GWS-- the schism occurs upon the return of the Pope to Rome.
