Need volunteers for big project.

  • I am going to dedicate the next few years to these things, one by one. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Personally message me if you interested, and I can also explain some of these things in greater detail to you, for whatever questions you might have. So this is also why I will not be posting online anytime in the foreseeable future. I will be updating on the fora, the progress and any other projects people can join to help. Trust me, everyone can do something to help lessen the load. I have been doing this for a LONG time, and I want to accelerate the process faster. I have paid, scanned personally many of these books and I put my money where my mouth is. No one has paid me one penny, no one has pushed me, all of this comes from a deep conviction that I have had for a long time. Too many times in the fora, people are asked to read the manuals, or to do their reading. However, they are not told where they can find this stuff, what they should read etc... I am hoping with this project that anyone interested can start, with proper guidance a good program they can follow for a long time to come. What I want is one simple place where everyone can go for their content, in a format that is universal, .txt. I will also be having another different copy of this same .txt in latex where I will be writing my notes/observations etc... If you are not sure what latex is, it is a common format used by academia/scientists/mathematicians and many other fields. All of the tools used for this project are free and open source, that means you don't need to pay fancy fees or have to ask permission for any of these things.

I have a large library of high quality scanned books, and there are still many I have not scanned and downloaded. I have also downloaded a large amount from online. So I need people who are willing to commit some amount of time and to learn how to use the tools that will be used. It is quite simple, but no worries. All the details and tutorial video's will be supplied by me (links etc...) to help those who are not familiar.

This particular project is pretty straightforward. I want to have human eyes edit the OCR'ed text of all the public domain books I have. If all my library was in text form it would be quite small and easily transferable to others. The reason why you need the text, is that it makes it easy to transfer to the use of other programs, and makes it searchable. An image for all tense and purposes is generally harder to make use for research and study purposes.

The purpose of this project is to help set a nice bibliographical information for my entire Catholic library, also to fill the gaps of books that I don't have. This also makes it easier for others to contribute when they see an important book is missing. So I want to be able to have humanly verified and edited text for all the theology manuals. That way EVERYONE can have that freely and easily accessible to them in multiple languages. Once I have the text, we can then spread it in a nice P2P torrent and share it across the fora.

So I am planning on using Github, a version control source code system that programmers often use. However, it will perfectly work for this project also. Since I would upload the different texts online to the main branch (my branch), and then after that other's would fork it and merge their commits/comments, back to me (and those who I have given the permissions to accept the commits). I will upload in Github the instructions to all of those who are interested in joining. Essentially some of these projects are a bit too big for just one person even if you are working on it 24/7. The benefit would be to the whole online Catholic fora community. The problem as it currently stands, there are some texts here and there. A chapter here and another chapter there of some theology manuals and good philosophical texts. I stand to gain nothing, because I already enjoy this rich library of books. I do this simply to share with others what they might not have available to them, without hurting their wallets. Poverty should not a factor, and people should not have to waste their precious time looking for stuff. This is simply to make things faster, so that everyone can strengthen their doctrinal stance, by looking in the original sources. Want to know what Cajetan, John of St. Thomas, or the other 138 theologians said about the Pope-heretic question? I can give you access to all of that, instead of having people quote of context all the said individuals. You can verify, whether or not that is truly what they held.

After this of course, I want to set up a wiki where all of these text's are also not just freely downloadable, but interlinked with each other etc... This will make it even easier for the masses to get access to good stuff.

If you are not interested, then don't contact me. It would be waste of my time, to have to explain all the ropes when in reality you really don't want to help. If you want to wait, fine. Just contact me whenever you indeed are ready, to dedicate even a few hours a week minimum. If you can't do that, then simply wait. Share it with your personal friends, ask them if they are interested. If you are not, maybe someone else will be.

The point is that if we combine and organize efficiently, we can accomplish quite a great deal. The main point is that there is a lot of work to be done, and this is not for the faint of heart. People who want quick results, but people who can be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel. This is a work dedicated for Holy Mother Church. Once we have edited a bunch of books, we can then pool up resources to pay a developer to build excellent software to help for study tools. I have paid for Logos Bible software, but it is expensive and proprietary. I want something that is free and open source, that is hackable by the user. Something that really saves my own time, to accelerate research. The way I used to do things, was really really slow. I am doing things like 100 times faster, it is worth taking the time to invest in learning a few good tools. Life is too short, and it is better to spend your time praying, enjoying life in general, then to have to stick with paleolithic tools that are slow, inefficient and proprietary.

Once again Private message me if you are interested, you can also email me at gaetanuscajetan@gmail.com. Put Title of email: Github Volunteer Project Assistance. What I will do is put a tag that will filter all of those email's to a specific folder. If you don't do this, it will make it harder for me to see it, I will do my best to read everything. However I do have a large mailing list I follow in that email address. You can also add me to chat, or hangouts. Whichever way is easiest to communicate with you, I am fine. Whether or not I get any help, I will do this myself regardless. As I truly believe that it will do the greatest amount of good, to Catholics worldwide.

May the Most Holy Trinity, bless this work. All honor and glory be to God alone. Amen.

  • It goes without saying, that you don't have to be a Catholic to help. Anyone can volunteer some time, in whatever they are interested in to help with. Just let me know, what would be most interested for you to double check. I want to make it enjoyable as possible for those helping, its a large project and endeavor. There are already some things that are finished already, someone did the Original Catholic Encyclopedia and humanly edited it after it was OCR'ed.

No, if you agree to help me the License will be public domain. I don't care how you use it, or any copyright trolls will go after you. I don't want to have a monopoly of text THAT should be public domain. Or use it to force other's to use my WEBSITE above that of other places. This is why, this sort of work MUST be done too many trolls that put restrictions to the user. This is why no one in their right mind will use that website.

Here you go and think that you are going to read a Catholic Encyclopedia which by the way is already public domain... Yet, they totally pervert the Catholic faith and restrict good humanly edited text. This is not what I want, I hope that is clear to anyone who is willing to help. You have surrendered your rights in the process, the works will stay public domain. You are doing this as a public service, not to gain any personal benefit.

  • "Want to know what Cajetan, John of St. Thomas, or the other 138 theologians said about the Pope-heretic question? I can give you access to all of that, instead of having people quote of context all the said individuals. "

ie: suitably manipulated to justify my unlawful sedevacantism.

    Nothing out of context here:

"St. Jerome - in saying that a heretic departs on his own from the Body of Christ - does not preclude the Church's judgment, especially in so grave a matter as is the deposition of a pope. He refers instead to the nature of that crime, which is such as to cut someone off from the Church on its own and without other censure in addition to it - yet only so long as it should be declared by the Church... So long as he has not become declared to us juridically as an infidel or heretic, be he ever so manifestly heretical according to private judgment, he remains as far as we are concerned a member of the Church and consequently its head. Judgment is required by the Church. It is only then that he ceases to be Pope as far as we are concerned"
    (John of St. Thomas).

But we don't need the work of theologians, for we have the teaching of Christ.

    Matthew 18:17

"And if he will not hear them: tell the church. And if he will not hear the church, let him be to thee as the heathen and publican."

How about the context for the meaning of the words "permanent" and "forever" as to the pontifical succession in Vatican 1?

However, perhaps the most startling statement is:

"It goes without saying, that you don't have to be a Catholic to help."

How can you work with manifest heretics, pernicious individuals, children of satan etc? Can Michael Voris apply?

  • Stick to the topic at hand. Not sure what you wrote, but I bet its another troll post. If not then my apologies. St. Thomas says that presumption is the mother of error.

If you are willing to help, so be it contact me. I would be more than willing to have any help you can offer. Let your actions speak louder than your words. If you want, we can start with private revelation texts for you. There is plenty of that stuff that I have, some texts out there are already available, that some folks have edited, but like I said we would have to re-do, since they have most of that stuff copyrighted. A little bit of research, can help you find if its already done and if it is public domain humanly edited text. OCR is great, but its not perfect. It works better with high quality scans, but unfortunately it falls short with some older books that have some smears. Also lots of the google books online are pretty low quality scans, and they mostly copied some of the REALLY ancient copies. The OCR in some of those is really horrid, most of the ones I have are really good copies. Some texts might just need a small brush up, others will need some real heavy editing.

Personally I will focus on other books, but that does not mean others can't work on what they consider interesting. Let me know what you are mostly interested in, I have a huge list of books. It will cover something that very likely is not available and needs editing.

Personally, in this sort of order what I want available is that which most people don't already have.

So that would be theological manuals, commentaries on the Code of Canon Law, commentaries of the Summa, moral theology books, liturgical books, ecclesiology, positive theology, mariology, spirituality. The entire Acta Apostolicae Saedis, and the previous one before that. Books on Greek, Latin and Hebrew including grammar books, dictionaries etc... Some thomist authors, such as John of St. Thomas, Banez, G-Lagrange, Ramirez, Capreolus, Salmaticenses, . Lexicon's of St. Thomas Summa, and so forth. Entire volumes on Metaphysics, and just so much interesting stuff. I have a bunch of French stuff, but since I don't know French I can't really take advantage of it, but others definitely can. Its not practical to share over the internet you know a TB of stuff. That is why this project is important, it can help to a great extent further the research of traditional Catholics, so they can have the necessary ammo against the Conciliar Church. Plus I can scan personally, any text we might be missing that is an excellent commentary. I already bought some pretty nice equipment for this purpose, just missing a few things, but everything is pretty much ready.

The main point is that people need free, easy access to the original text, in a P2P distributed fashion. So that if you think I am taking someone out of context, you can prove how much of a liar I am. Real discussion can only take place once people have access to the same stuff I have access to. If someone does not have internet connection, no problem once things get going I can contact a CD/DVD producer that can make batch orders so people can share it, and order it through some online fashion. M.o.s.t. H.o.ly. Fa.mi.ly Mon.astery, does a pretty good job at spreading their content in that way so no need to re-invent the wheel. Plus it also makes it 100 times easier for quoting, and having a prepared full bibliographic page so that it makes it ultra easy to cite your sources.

Its not enough to just cite your source, that sounds all fine and dandy. How can anyone ever verify your claims if they would have to purchase a book that very likely only a few libraries have available in the world. Most manuals, only but a couple of chapters are online and that is all due to the work of several sedevacantists such as Mr. John Daly's generous contributions to Latin translations, and Mr. John Lane also sharing some of those texts on his website. Many proof-texting methods would be totally destroyed once this information is out in the open. One thing that comes to mind is some of the recent anti-sedevacantist articles written, when I have gone back to go look at the original text. I could not find anywhere what they cited... Fr. Cekada has recorded also a few instances of this in some of the a-priori anti-sedevacantist literature. So in case anyone is wondering why I consider it so important, it is precisely for this reason. They can only get away with bold face lies, because no one but a few selected people can check that stuff.

Right now I am putting up the library I have, somewhere where everyone can check. Its going to take me some time to put all the relevant information, but just be patient. Also I will give a link real soon, of the Github page where you can fork your copies and edit them, put comments etc... I will put the instruction page on the sort of procedure to follow so that everyone works in synchronized fashion.

Edited: it edited my original post, Not sure why.

    1 Timothy 6:20

O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding the profane novelties of words, and oppositions of knowledge falsely so called.

  • ThomisticPhilosopher, I like your project and I do agree it will be a valuable service to the Catholic community to get these books and text out in a searchable format.  I am currently busy (hey who isn't) with real world commitments and I have had much less time of late to spend (waste?) on Catholic fora, but I may be able to contribute a few hours a week to the proof texting, since I enjoy and am reading anyways.  Give me a day or two to think about it and I will contact you to establish details.

    God bless!

P.S. Andysloan why are you even on this thread if you don't want to help?  Whenever I read your posts I am reminded of that quote from Mark Twain:

It's not what you don't know that gets you into trouble, it's what you know for sure, that just ain't so.
Pray the Holy Rosary every day!!

  • Yes, even an hour or two on a weekly basis is enough. The reason why I say it has to be somewhat consistent is because I will be dedicating my precious time to help you get the ropes and aid you in the process. So this is just a way in which I can dedicate my time to those who have a semi-commitment. It is just a question of justice and charity, if I am giving it and have been giving it my all for many years. What I ask is a minimal promise that you would do everything in your power to keep it, of course given that nothing extraordinary happens to you which I can understand. Nothing wrong if you can't help, help spread the word if you can. Once I give the link and more details will be given once I get that stuff done.

There are also many other ways in which one can help in their own way, even without editing text. A lot of this stuff in the future will be held in P2P server's and shared through torrents. People can be generous and leave their computers on so that others can share. I will outline many of these things later on, but the gist is that once a text has been triple checked by multiple people to be exactly what the original text had. Then, that book will be specifically out in the open. We can then be able to do several things, put it on Archive.org, put in wiki books also, and also share it through different ways. As this will be a long process the fruits will be seen much later, but first things first! Once we have lots of the original latin text, we can then pool some money together to pay for some translators and put the text in public domain. I would of course rather recommend to simply learn Latin, but most people can't realistically do this. We can then translate the most important books, chapters etc...

What I will also be doing with the list of books that I do not have, I will be ordering them through ILL and then personally scanning them myself. After that OCR'ing them and then we can edit it. So once the list of books is up, what we can then do is get recommendations on what is missing. If anyone else already has high quality scans they can also share that stuff. Once again I emphasize good quality, because it will greatly help to have to edit much less. This is why many google books simply won't work for our purposes.

A good place where you can see the titles of many theologians is this Post Reformation Library, that is where I get a lot of my suggestions from in case anyone is wondering.

    http://www.prdl.org/schools.php
*Special Note the site is Protestant, but they have good references for many post reformation Scholastic theologians and their books.*

In case anyone is wondering, there are several people who already do editing except that they charge HEFTY amount of money for it.
    https://www.logos.com/product/43564/verbum-capstone

They charge top dollar for Public domain books, precisely because they needed to pay full time employees to do this work and add links, to cross reference the other software.

The more people that participate, the better off everyone is. Everyone benefits, and this is truly to help organize and gather the fruits of everyone's labor. Some people are fortunate enough to have the time, money to be able to get access to these rare out of print books. Thus, they can nourish themselves from Catholic magisterial teachings, when they have a doubt they can go back and look at different opinions settled or disputed matters. We are always willing to change our view, if it is not consonant with the mind of the Church. I can count with few fingers anyone that actually does have a physical copy of a theology manual. This is why ignorance is so bliss among traditionalists and one might be tempted to say. "Well that is the business of the clergy..." We don't need to concern ourselves with these matters! Then they wonder why all their children, accept evolution, or when confronted by atheists/agnostics/apostates about their faith. They are left like babies twiddling their thumbs, and most of the time they lose the faith. Most of the friends I went to school with in the SSPX, either outright left the Catholic Church (became atheist's), married with a protestant minister or other such ludicrous things. Well it is pretty obvious, they never bothered to study their faith, they just took it for granted and this is not a luxury we can afford when you live in an age that puts the worm of doubt all the time to your belief's as a Catholic.

Lots of sedeplenist accuse SV'ist of not using their time productively. Well I would have to say, put your money/actions where your mouth is. Show that you are truly willing to put your time/talent/treasure in the service of someone other than yourself. In fact this was one of the things that really helped me in a small way even if I did not agree with the SV'ist at the time, was the fact that they were so few in number, but yet producing so much good content. Instead of just re-hashing +Lefebvre quotes, they were quoting the good stuff. Most of the literature that has been unearthed in the internet has been produced mostly by sedevacantists of all sorts (home aloners, radical schismatics, MHFM, sedeprivationist). This is especially the manuals, commentaries, and the rich theological minds of the Church. They have always made their works freely available to all, under a very permissive license of sharing and distributing. There are some others that have done some of these things, but they never share it or make it available to others. Its always with a very restrictive purpose in mind, or charge you hefty fee's. Thereby limiting their audience by like 99.99%, what comes to mind is the Saint Benedict Center and many other places. I understand the need to pay the bills etc... There are much better alternatives, in order for people to listen you need to lower the bar to the lowest possible. As soon as you put any restrictions, you are impeding lots of potential good.

The SSPX mostly writes articles that self-references their own theological system/method, but it is mostly obsessed with how their authorities just can't put 2 and 2 to make 4. This is why the whole drama of 40 years, of what the Roman's are doing etc... The Catholic mind desires and wants certainty, not to live in a constant state of sifting EVERYTHING that lawful authorities give to you, questioning whether it is poison or good. The constant back and forth, the vascillating between neither here nor there. Gasp, they are telling us we are not schismatics, and then they tell us we are! Ohh the mixed signals! Breaking news flash, such and such Cardinal said this and that about us. Or worse case scenario as I see very often, they just simply read exclusively the thought of Bishop Lefebvre on all matters and that is it... They never read anything outside of SSPX filters and never get to read the original sources. Bishop Lefebvre has made it pretty clear that he left this issue unsolved, and said that we will let the theologians of the 21st century to solve this question (the doubtfulness of the current claimants). To him the main thing was simply making chapels, and forming more priest's for that purpose.

Ergo, study study study. And then more study study study. And then after that continue to study study study. Notice all the previous errors that everyone in the traditional movement has made, all of it was due to rash and quick decisions. Scuckardt, thought he had original jurisdiction this much is clear (Vezelis does the same thing). Now notice how +Fellay, +Williamson, +Galaretta (the only one who has never done this is +Tissier, he is my favorite by far the most doctrinally solid of the whole bunch, nay in the whole SSPX) are doing exactly the same thing now. I wish I had the time to list every single thing they are currently doing, but for brevity I can't. Just know that they too are usurping and slowly but surely making it objectively clear that they pretend to be real Bishops with a Mission from the Church. They of course are excused, but if they would have been wiser and instead of postponing the inevitable and have simply stopped to think about these issues. They would have instead of acting so prejudiciously, they should have set themselves to seriously study the question. Instead of simply just trying to multiply chapels without any sort of doctrinal issues solved. Putting off the big questions, does NO ONE any good. Look at the huge divide in the SSPX, into smaller and smaller divisions. Everyone used to complain how the SV'ist are so "divided", but just notice how divided even the indult is. No one dares ask, geez isn't this absolute proof that indeed the heresiarch and schismatic in Rome the de facto reason why this is happening. Suarez has some interesting things to say about how a Pope can become a Schismatic (how we can detect he indeed is one), and so does Torquemada. Word for word, the Conciliar Popes fall under what they consider schism from Pontiff.

Saint Vincent Ferrer what he did, and most all other Holy Doctors when they were presented with novelty/heresy/schism. They went back into prayer and studied the mind of the Church, not until they had definitely settled in their minds the issue did they do anything. They studied for years sometimes these issues, quietly and prayerfully. The best condemnation of Vatican II, is not post Conciliar traditional writers, but pre-Vatican II sources when none of these things were ever disputed. The best condemnation of the new mass is any good old book on the mass. Things are only going to get worse, so while you have the chance, please do study. In the future there will be no chance to do so, because you will be worrying more about other important issues. So grasp as much as you can right now, so that you learn the core principles well so that in the future when you are presented with a charismatic false prophet, you will not be dissuaded by great signs and wonders. Your efforts will not be in vain, even some older Novus Ordo clergyman are starting to pay attention. I personally have spoken to one such priest for a period of 4 years over time. He was ordained in 1967, and he is now a Sedevacantist. He still needs to learn many other important issues, but he understands fully the core fundamentals. Think of how hard it is for someone to have worked for that institution for 40 something years, it is so psychologically hard... If you know a conservative indult Novus Ordo presider, talk to him also. You never know, these men deserve the chance to be re-ordained and serve the Church in whatever capacity they can. Some of them are really sincere, and truly have a great love for the Church. Sometimes its simply no one even bothers to show them, and take the time to simply explain things. Don't presume anything, don't assume anything. Charity above all things, you will be able to radiate that love for truth and joy. They will come around, just be patient.

Ultimately the more we can work together to do, it will help give the ammunition so that you can demonstrate that this is clearly not a self-driven spirit. What we are teaching is beyond a shadow of a doubt, the teaching of the Church, and this is why its important to have the sources, freely and easily accessible. Very few of us have these text's that is the truth, if it was not for the few that have posted this stuff online, 99% of traditionalists would pretty much have no access to any of these materials.

What we can know for sure - the fullness of the truth of the Holy Roman Catholic faith, has Divine guarantee.

    Vatican 1; session 4; 1870

    Therefore,if anyone says that
it is not by the institution of Christ the Lord himself (that is to say, by divine law) that blessed Peter should have perpetual successors in the primacy over the whole church; or that the Roman pontiff is not the successor of blessed Peter in this primacy:
    let him be anathema.

You have decided in erring opinion of your own free-will "that just ain't so"
