  • Name the cleric who stated these words...

"The current state of the papacy renders insignificant the difficulties over jurisdiction, disobedience and apostolicity, because these notions suppose the reign of a pope Catholic in his faith and government. Without entering into consideration of the consequences of an heretical, schismatic or non-existent pope, which would lead to interminable theoretical discussions, in conscience could we not and ought we not, after the promulgation of the 1983 Code of Canon Law which clearly affirms the new Church, and after his scandalous declarations concerning Luther, now affirm that Pope John Paul II is not Catholic? We say no more, but we say no less. We had waited for the measure to become full, and it is so henceforth." Quote From: Fideliter. (Emphasis Mine.)

The cleric who stated this was...

    Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre.

Editor's Note:  Of course a non-Catholic could in no way be the true visble head of the Catholic Church...
"I receive Thee, redeeming Prince of my soul. Out of love for Thee have I studied, watched through many nights, and exerted myself: Thee did I preach and teach. I have never said aught against Thee. Nor do I persist stubbornly in my views. If I have ever expressed myself erroneously on this Sacrament, I submit to the judgement of the Holy Roman Church, in obedience of which I now part from this world." Saint Thomas Aquinas the greatest Doctor of the Church

  • Archbishop Lefebvre on several occasions publicly expressed doubts about the legitimacy of the V2 popes.  I've known quite a few in the SSPX who think that way but give them the benefit of the doubt, absent smoking-gun proof to the contrary.  As I've said, I have no problem with this kind of thinking, though I believe that Archbishop Lefebvre should have been more active in confronting the V2 popes with charges of heresy and demands for an investigation.

  • Archbishop Lefebvre:  "We say no more, but we say no less."

That's much more profound and eloquent statement of my own "Doubtul Pope" position.  I neither deny nor affirm the legitimacy of the V2 popes.
