I receive a lot of mail from N.O. religious orders asking for money to support their ministry or for Mass intentions. I have always been hesitant to give because I don't want to support their liberal agendas - such as not preaching the true faith but the post-conciliar faith. Anyway, a couple of weeks ago I received a letter from the Marist Brother- a religious order of teaching brothers who focus mainly on the education of young people. This letter wanted donation to support the old and retired brothers. It had a picture of an elderly brother called Br. Clement Legare, as an example, and this wha the first sentence of the 5th paragraph said:
Now as in their youthful days, Brothers such as Clem (pictured to the right), still follow the teachings of the Marist Brothers' founder, St. Marcellin Champagnat
Now this is what bothered me about this (other than the fact that they are claiming that this order is still faithful to the saintly founder (non of the Novus Ordo religious orders are faithful to their original founder after aggiermento). They were talking about Br. Clement in the present tense (notice the words "still follow")- to make it seem as if he is one of the brothers whom our money will help support. However, when I looked up Br. Clement at www.maristbr.com it shows that Br. Legare died in January of 2003 (more than 4 years ago). I think that was being a bit deceptive on their part.

Wait. Just thought of something. Before I commit the sin of rash judgement, could be that the Marist Brothers mailed the same letter they used years ago - sometimes organizations, charities, orders, etc. send the same letters over again.
But I'm still not donating to any N.O. orders.

It is, as you realize, unacceptable to support such groups. Sadly, these same groups were once Catholic and were whole-heartedly supported by our fathers, grandfathers, etc.

Those kind of mailings don't even get opened or make it into my house. One quick glance at the outside of the envelope and it goes in the trash can.

I ALWAYS get Novus Ordo junkmail. Who put me on these mailing lists?! Argh!
In fact, just yesterday, they sent me something or another, asking for money. As a way to guilt me into it, they gave me a free rosary...with JPII all over it. Instead of a Pater bead, they have little JPII medals, which say "Pray for us." Um, last I checked, he hasn't been officially canonised, right? Oh, and they sent a white rosary pouch (I'm sure you're all familiar with these), but it has a silhouette of JPII leaning against his "papal crucifix."
Anybody want it? I'd be more than happy to ship it somewhere... =P

stuff a little reminder inside the package that he has not yet been canonized, then return in to the sender
