    Quote
Motu Proprio Masses: One thing is
to encourage priests to celebrate the
true Mass, but it is another thing to
encourage our faithful to attend such
Masses. The reason being that in
    addition to the Traditional Liturgy,
sound doctrine is also required, and
this latter is called into question
when a priest, albeit in good faith,
accepts the doctrinal rectitude of the
NOM in theory or in practice.

  • I'm a bit confused. When one talks about the  true Mass are they referring to
    a)  pre 62 missal
    b)  the 62 missal
    c)  Motu propio
    d) It doen't matter

They are referring to the Tridentine Mass, the Mass codified by Pope St. Pius V. It doesn't really matter which edition, be it pre 62 or 62. The Novus Ordo is an entirely different, new Mass.

So in my missal which is pre 62 all through lent it said no 'ite missa est' but 'benedicamus domino and no blessing' Why is this?

What about all the beautiful collects etc for the Pope and the church, which is I would think very important in this time have been abolished?

  • The Conciliar church no longer uses the 1962 Missal.  Thus, the Moto Proprio Masses will be the 2008 Missal.  Of course, this new 2008 Missal was promulgated via email with the issuance of the new Good Friday prayer of Benedict 16.

It is my understanding that the SSPX has rejected the 2008 Missal and continues to use the 1962 Missal.

So it is okay to change from the original eg blessing at the end of mass in lent.

Another one is: That Bishop Felley is asking of us more and more prayers, then why doesn't he include the extra collects that were included in the true mass of the past. They are so beautiful and were put their for the purpose to protect the Holy Catholic Church from what is going through now.

  • TKGS,

I fear it's not going to stop at the 2008 Missal. The goal seems to be a hybrid TLM/NO Mass.

There is already talk of reforming the 62 Missal AGAIN adding in NO prayers, etc.

An implementation process just like the NO.

The TLM could not be exterminated. Now it must be assimilated.

If the Society "joins" Rome will they refuse to say the Pope's own new Good Friday prayer?

This is the test balloon like putting St. Joseph's name in the Canon was.

If the Society capitulates on the Good Friday prayer, that is the foot in the door.

Classic sales. Then gradually more significant concessions are asked of the Society as time goes by. With each concession it gets harder to justify refusing the next one.

ABL pulled out in '88 because he sensed he couldn't trust them. They were stalling on the date. Red flag. Assisi was a red flag.

Here we have Assisi III, coupled with making the Society sign a pledge if obedience, coupled with planned changes to the TLM.

    I have my doubts...

I agree with your post adding St Joseph  was a test balloon and knowing the reasons and people involved should never had been included.
I do think that while the SSPX keep to the reformed 62 missal they will always have a foot in the door. Not only the missal either but the breviary as well.
