TKGS,
I fear it's not going to stop at the 2008 Missal. The goal seems to be a hybrid TLM/NO Mass.
There is already talk of reforming the 62 Missal AGAIN adding in NO prayers, etc.
An implementation process just like the NO.
The TLM could not be exterminated. Now it must be assimilated.
If the Society "joins" Rome will they refuse to say the Pope's own new Good Friday prayer?
This is the test balloon like putting St. Joseph's name in the Canon was.
If the Society capitulates on the Good Friday prayer, that is the foot in the door.
Classic sales. Then gradually more significant concessions are asked of the Society as time goes by. With each concession it gets harder to justify refusing the next one.
ABL pulled out in '88 because he sensed he couldn't trust them. They were stalling on the date. Red flag. Assisi was a red flag.
Here we have Assisi III, coupled with making the Society sign a pledge if obedience, coupled with planned changes to the TLM.
I have my doubts...
