MHFM: Thanks for the e-mail. We understand the sentiments you have at seeing first-hand the total apostasy of individuals who claim (and externally appear) to care about the traditional Catholic faith. To remain in the positions that they’ve held for so long is simply a sign that they believe in nothing, and your conversation with them showed it clearly. The point about externals being deceiving is quite relevant, and it’s one we’ve focused on many times. It’s often only in conversations, debates and encounters that the dark reality underneath the pleasant externals is uncovered. Without faith it is impossible to please God (Heb. 11:6), no matter how nice the habits, the Latin, the buildings or the vestments. And they clearly don’t have it, but they are sadly apostates. We do marvel at how those who have dedicated at least a lot of time to what they consider to be the Catholic faith can actually care so little and reject so clearly the teachings they claim to accept. What you experienced is the case not only with that particular group, but with the others like it. Many of their supporters will be quite surprised, to their dismay, after death when they find out how they were deceived to the path of Hell by not caring about the faith, and by caring primarily about “community,” “friends” and externals.
