Mel Gibson has lost all credibility with me since he divorced his wife. Moreover, he is just an actor, and not too well upstairs.
Yes, that was a great scandal and does reduce his credibility. Hopefully now that he's making the new movie about The Resurrection, it'll give him pause to clean up his act.
Gibson:
He also urged Pope Francis to repent and to take seriously the 10 commandments as absolutes. “The 10 Commandments were written in stone for a reason,” he said.
Mr. Gibson needs have a good look at #6 there.
Sure, we're all sinners, and this isn't about casting stones, but he has persisted for years in adultery and it's been very public, so any positive effects his statements may have are offset by the bad example he gives in appearing to condone living in adultery. We're not talking about a sin of weakness here, where someone has a fall but then shows contrition and tries to amend. So the problem here is his persistence in sin, and not just the sin itself.
He's been with his current adulterous "girlfriend" for 7 years now. One would think that at some point there, he would have some second thoughts. He's not in much of a position to criticize Bergoglio regarding the commandments.
