The East has always allowed married men to become priests. Also, what you wrote is wrong...

A married priest has been ordained by the Maronite Catholic Church in the United States for the first time in nearly a century. His wife and daughter were on hand to support him.

Yes, you're right. I think what you experienced, crossbro, was just a heretical priest. If someone leaves the priesthood on their own volition for something like a desire to get married, they should've never been a priest in the first place.

I have run into two what I call "benders" in my lifetime. One was when I was in college a couple decades ago of a guy who said he was going to become a Lutheran missionary pastor first so he could get married then covert and become a married catholic priest. The other, 5 years ago at work, who went to Canada to the seminary so he could become an married eastern priest and then creep his way into the RCC as a married priest.

That is right, in the east- so why is he allowed to do this in an American diocese ?- Welcome to the slippery slope.

There are Maronites in the USA under their own Bishops.
