Though their actions developed conflict between them and the church hierarchy, the commitment formed benefitted all concerned and brought an involvement which shattered the cloistered image of the past. Typical of this are these nuns in the vanguard of a protest march in Selma, Ala., March, 1965, led by the late Martin Luther King, Jr."

Is it that the nuns were directly disobedient to their superiors and were forbidden to take part in these marches specifically? Or is it that all nuns are not allowed to take part in any controversial political/social activity?

What about Catholic demonstrations? The pro-life movement, for example- would nuns be allowed to join in a Catholic pro-life march?

The main thing about nuns in the 1960s is that they were "reeducated" out of their Catholic Faith (if not of their Common Decency) and became devoted to communicating their Apocalyptic degeneration to a generation of Catholic children.

One zealous Daughter of the Spirit here in my neck of the woods was training her students to say the F Word ten times. To wean them away from the old Manichean/Catholic views on Modesty which nuns in the 1950s supposedly inflicted on their older brothers and sisters.

Complaints were made to the bishop.

The rest is trivial distraction from what really counts. Including the relatively unobjectionable marching on behalf of Negroes and such.
