"Responding to the spirit of Vatican II, to rethink their lifestyles and to update their communities, many nuns have moved into active participation throughout the nation. Though their actions developed conflict between them and the church hierarchy, the commitment formed benefitted all concerned and brought an involvement which shattered the cloistered image of the past.
