Lots of Hatred for the SSPX here
« on: July 07, 2021, 03:56:59 PM »
This is admittedly kind of subjective, but I'm curious what other people think.  I feel like there's more venom directed at SSPX than FSSP in this group.  Do  you think that's just kinda me imaginging it, or is it because the SSPX is "supposed to be better", or something else?

I think the FSSP is just dismissed as another flavor of the Novus Ordo while the SSPX is hated because she used to be loved and dear and considered good, but now is seen as another Judas.

It's kind of like how a man doesn't hate anyone as much as he hates his ex-wife after the bad divorce.

There's a lot of Resistance people here and sedevacantists (I'm one). I don't personally have much against the Society. I regularly attend one of their chapels, and while the wider Society leadership has certainly made some questionable decisions towards the Vatican, on the ground level I don't see much in my experience worthy of strong condemnation.

But I'm also no expert on SSPX politics.

Rather succinctly put overall.
FSSP are traitors to the Traditional  Faith outright. The neoSSPx are now moving that way but at least the sacraments there are assuredly valid, thus I partake when possible with respect to my circuмstances. Resistance chapel too far away unfortunately.

You didn't mention "hatred" in your actual post.

I object to your use of "hatred" in this context. It implies that opposition to the neo-SSPX is 90% if not 100% emotion. It implies that it's irrational. And it certainly implies that it's sinful/evil.

There is a lot of JUST ANGER towards an organization which was founded by +ABL to be a beacon of light in this Crisis in the Church. It was the sanest, most sure place to park your soul (and those of your family) during this Crisis. It was the surest route of keeping the Faith without many of the downside risks seen in other groups. And that is why the SSPX quickly became the 800 lb gorilla of the Trad world. So many good, holy, and faithful Catholics all around the world "heard the voice of the Shepherd" and attached themselves to this Providential lifeboat.

But since 2012, it has come to light that a new generation of priests, a significant percentage of the SSPX clergy, have betrayed their founder. By all calculations they more properly belong in the FSSP, but they instead prefer to  "keep their seniority" in the SSPX, not become "the new guy" in another group -- which means changing the organization instead. These men are traitors, and yes, betrayal often elicits the emotion of Righteous Indignation.

Hatred is an emotion, a sin when applied to a human being. One of the signs of hatred is that the object of that hatred "can do no right". I haven't see that here on CathInfo, I'm sorry. I'm going to go so far as to say you're wrong on this. You're delusional. Maybe one or two individuals at most. CathInfo is a huge forum; 2 individuals is a drop in the bucket. Most others, even strong Resistance-leaning individuals, are quick to be fair and accurate and "give the devil his due", myself included. I will speak truth about the SSPX and everything else for that matter, even if that frequently takes the form of criticism (because it's something negative).

Part of the evil of the neo-SSPX is keeping the Trads asleep. They haven't reached their destination yet. They don't want everyone to wake up before things are finalized and irreparable. So our job on CathInfo and other places is to wake people up! Hence our focus on the negative -- the proverbial "one lost sheep in the desert" (the few things they're doing wrong) rather than the 99 that are still in the sheepfold (the many things they're still doing right -- at least in SOME locations).

Remember, a sinking ship is still 99% dry and normal. The problem is, the ship is taking on water and the situation WILL get worse by the hour. Every single person on that ship needs to figure out where he is going to go after it becomes impossible to float any longer on the main ship itself. Time to launch the lifeboats. Time to create new lifeboats, or a whole new ship if necessary. But once the Titanic struck the iceberg, the writing was on the wall. The doom of that ship was sealed -- as it has been for the SSPX.
