The Shepherd hath not only been struck, but has become something worse.
Wolves have often been maligned in history through literature and sadly but validly through Holy Writ.

As I was contemplating on Tolkien last night, I thought that the present pontiff is worse by several orders of magnitude than the standard wolf metaphor. Bergolio is truly a Warg, a hound of Sauron, that tears apart the flock.

Sheep may no longer safely graze,
And sheeple are oft to be tazed.
