  • Xavier, this is why the "Indult" is unstable. And this is only the beginning...

    (This is a letter from the bishop of Charleston, SC regarding TLM restrictions. The photo of the letter I read online was blurry and it wouldn't let me drag the photo onto this thread because of the size or something I guess, so I retyped it exactly as it is)

    "NOVUS ORDO," I hereby decree the following policy for the celebration of the Mass according to the missal of 1962 in the Diocese of Charleston. These directives become effective the first Sunday of Advent, 2021.

    Policy regarding Celebration of the Mass of 1962 in the Diocese of Charleston

    A singular Mass of Obligation in the following parishes on Sunday and Holy Days of Obligation is permitted with the following conditions:

    1. On Christmas it may not be the Mass at night (midnight).

    2. It may not be celebrated during the Triduum or the Easter Vigil.

    3. A single Mass may be celebrated on All Souls Day.

    4. The Mass of 1962 may be celebrated on weekdays if an additional Mass is celebrated according to the "NOVUS ORDO" on the same day.

    Parishes

        . Stella Maris-----Sulivans Island
        . Sacred Heart-----Charleston
        . Prince of Peace-----Taylors
        . Our Lady of the Lake-----Chapin

    Priests

    Those priests who have been celebrating this Mass prior to the date of Pope Francis' MOTU PROPRIO and who have indicated to me that they were doing so, may celebrate this Mass in above named parishes under the directives stated above. These priests have been notified of this permission.

    Regarding Celebration of certain Sacraments in the "Tridentine form"

        1. Baptism-----permitted only at the request of the individual parents. No group Baptism is permitted. New Deacons may not celebrate in the Tridentine ritual.
        2. Confirmation-----not permitted.
        3. Matrimony-----with permission of ordinary.
        4. Anointing of the Sick-----not permitted.
        5. funerals-----Only at specific written request of the deceased.

    Note

    Baptism, Matrimony, and Anointing of the Sick can be celebrated in Latin according to the most recent updating of the rites.

    Policy to be effective on the First Sunday of Advent: November 28, 2021

    Most Rev. Robert E. Guglielmone, DD
    Bishop of Charleston

    ***Something else I found...

    "Bishop Guglielmone celebrated his 75th birthday in December of 2020 and so submitted his resignation. He still retains his full title and duties until a newly appointed bishop takes possession of the diocese in person, or until the pope appoints a priest to administer the diocese while we await the naming of a new bishop."

    Here's a photo of the jerk...interestingly this one popped up in google images;

    Of course, of course... We all know the real reasons, but what the hell is their excuse for not allowing TLM for the Triduum?? Have any of these assholes given an explanation? (So far I know the TLM Triduum is banned in Rome and now Charleston. Not sure about elsewhere)

  • I was reading through the comments about this letter which was featured in an article on a Catholic news site and came across this interesting comment;

    "Is it coincidence that the headquarters of the Southern Jurisdiction of the Masonic Scottish Rite is situated in Charleston?  Just asking."

  • This is actually somewhat liberal when compared to what the alternatives under TC could be.  South Carolina is a smaller, fairly compact state geographically, and none of those locations are more than 1 1/2 to 2 hours from the farthest points in that state.  They also have it nearby in Charlotte under Bishop Jugis.

    Could be better, could be worse.

    Well, the banning of the TLM for the Triduum and midnight Mass and Confirmation and "annointing" is really bad in my opinion.
