In the category of either-you-laugh-or-you-cry is this article from the disillusioned contingent over at the Novus Ordite Homiletic & Pastoral Review. Sedes might argue that these are not even priests, Resistance might argue that we don't need to be reminded of what goes on in the NOM, a few might even suggest that this belongs in the Unfunny Stuff section.
I'd argue that this is the perfect article to assign to any and all those you know, laity or otherwise, who still think the True Mass is not worth their time. * Have them read it through and attempt to refute it in full. The writing doesn't get much into theology or rubrics so it's not over the heads of those lacking correct catechesis. It's just a stark and unfettered indictment of modern Catholics and what to them passes for a Mass, certainly in the USA if not elsewhere too.
* The author does get in a tiny sidelong bit, emphasis added below, of seeming admiration for the Usus Antiquior. Not bad for a Jesuit.
This is such a hatchet job on the Novus Ordo, that I am struggling to understand how it ever saw print.
It is only, at most, a slightly exaggerated caricature of what the situation in Newchurch is actually like.
It's all easily summed up in "lack of respect for the Blessed Sacrament", and an utter cluelessness about Mass as Sacrifice.
Of course, "cheerleaders for the Novus Ordo" would remind us of those Catholics of awesome faith (which I am not necessarily denying) in Africa, the Philippines, and to some extent in Hispanic America, who do have at least some measure of these traditional beliefs, and who are "doing it right", with the spoken or unspoken fillip that all would be well, if we would just become people of simple faith like they are. Supposedly European cultural and spiritual patrimony just needs to go find someplace to die, and move over for a kind of "great spiritual replacement" fueled by sheer numbers if nothing else. Low on doctrine, high on emotion, the apples of Rome's eye.
