  • We only honor the La Salette apparition today thanks to the "rules regarding the discussion of visions being relaxed"... after Vatican II.
So Trads owe something to Vatican II? Whatever we need Vatican II for, can't be any good!
In other words, whenever Vatican II is the answer, it's a really crappy question!

    Quote
Once again, during the pontificate of Pope Benedict XV, the Church was compelled to address the issue. Benedict XV issued an admonitum or formal papal warning recognizing the many different versions of the secret in all its diverse forms and forbidding the faithful or the clergy to investigate or discuss them without permission from their bishops. The admonitum further affirmed that the Church's prohibition issued under Pope Leo XIII remained binding. A decree in 1923 was prompted by the reprinting of the 1879 edition subsequently altered by an anti-clerical partisan of the secret.
Since the Second Vatican Council, the rules regarding the discussion of visions have been relaxed and the Index abolished. Her book was republished, and discussion once again took place.

  • It was placed in the index because of so many different translations, not because it was a false apparition.  Big difference.

How many popes have failed to consecrate Russia and we're surprised that many popes ignored LaSallete too, by not researching/issuing a true translation?  Not shocking at all.

I guess the only conclusion is that we should not take anything from this or that La Salette translation and run with it, without some kind of guidance from a Trad bishop.

Because the Church (before V2) was quite cautious about the La Salette prophecy, because of all the babel of confusion of versions and translations.
Catholics should beware, in other words.

  • This is a note about what I've just finished reading in The Life of Sister Mary of St. Peter.  Monsieur Leon Papin-Dupont is recounting what the Sister's mother superior had just told him.  He never wrote anything down, as a personal policy, of what this Sister, his good friend told him about her revelations from Our Lord and the work of Reparation.  But on this sole occasion with the Mother Superior, he did record exactly what she said and used the paper as a prayer book marker.

He later looked at it anew and saw it as further proof of Sister St. Peter's work which he didn't really need.  He already believed in it.  But, it struck him as predictive of Our Lady's appearance at La Salette a few months later when he got a written communication from  M. le Cure de Corps on the subject.  That he wrote it down is the only reason that particular revelation exists today - the Mother Superior expressed to him that she must have forgotten on that one occasion to ask the Sister to put in writing what had happened.  So the account doesn't exist in the Sister's writings.   The reverend mother said, and M. Dupont wrote down:

Our Lord addressing himself to the sister said:  'My mother has spoken to men of my displeasure; she desires to disarm my justice and she has shown me her maternal heart, saying My Divine Son, behold this heart which has so loved thee!  Let me shower benedictions on my other children!  After which she descended to the earth.  Have confidence in her.'

This was before La Salette by a couple of months.  It seems as though Our Lord was describing the entire event before it occurred which would make sense as there is no time other than here on earth.

The issue with La Salette, for my part, resolves with the understanding that material was released little by little intentionally.  It is actually easy to see this but one must patiently read long and intricately paced material in Parts I - VI of the La Salette series at http://www.salvemariaregina.info/SalveMariaRegina/SMR-163/LaSalette1.html .

For me the connection of the Holy Face work of Reparation with La Salette is gratifying since I am already praying a few of the prayers of reparation.  I like that apparition because of the difficulties with which it is associated.

    I appreciate Melanie's complex character.

Exactly, and looking at the Crisis in the Church resulting from Vatican II and the new order "mass", we can logically conclude that the true version of La Salette is the one containing Our Lady's words, "Rome will lose the Faith and become the seat of Antichrist" ... "The Church will be in eclipse" ... "The Antichrist will be born of a Hebrew nun" ... etc.

Blessed be the Lord my God, who teacheth my hands to fight, and my fingers to war. ~ Psalms 143:1 (Douay-Rheims)

The Church has always been cautious about all private revelation and prophecy. La Salette has always rung true to me, in spite of any confusion that has been sown.
    .
Guidance from a trad bishop? I know none, but +Williamson by reputation, but then he recommends Maria Valtorta so I'd be cautious of taking his counsel.

  • Knowing the wiles of the Modernists I suspect they 'relaxed discussion' on visions in order to set up  Medjugorje as the apparitions of a now modernist Our Lady. There is no doubt but it is the Devil who runs the daily news from heaven there. Some of the stories, like Our Lady saying the holiest person in that country was a Muslim woman, will give you a taste of what is on offer there from heaven.

Ever since the revelations of La Salette came out about Rome losing the faith and becoming the seat of the antichrist, it is only natural to see there would be resistance to such predictions. But now that it has come true, and Rome doesn't give a damn, 'Catholics' in the world today have moved on to the message of Medjugorje.

La Salette was a genuine apparition. As can know this from a second apparition directly connected to it.

Thirty-three years after the apparition, on 20th August 1879, a basilica at La Salette was consecrated, and the following day, August 21st, the cardinal Archbishop of Paris in France (representing the Melchisedech Priesthood and Melchisedech Kingship) performed a canonical coronation of the statue of the Virgin of La Salette according to the prescription of the sacred Congregation of Rites.
On the very same day as this coronation, 21st August 1879, as only heaven can co-ordinate, there occurred an active but silent apparition at Knock, a small town in west Connaught, Ireland, a place ‘ruggedly inhospitable and not conducive for agriculture.’

The apparition of Knock was one of the most unusual in the history of apparitions. While the figures in it were speaking, no one could hear them. There are a few versions by those attempting to understand the message, but there is no doubt it forecast what was to come to the Church in the 20th century, but this one singled out another attack on the traditional Mass, just as Cromwell did in Ireland in the 17th century. As this is exactly what happened after Vatican II, Cromwell's Protestant meal replacing the sacrificial Mass, I go along with this interpretation. No doubt Medjugorje has long given up the Latin Mass, so approval of this place can now go ahead.
