  • I was just thinking that if  we as Catholics are to believe that the Holy Spirit selects our popes than maybe we have received the pope that we either need or deserve.

Maybe we need a pope like Francis to wake us up out of our stupor and more fully return to the traditionalism that was left behind in the wake of Vatican II.

Or maybe we deserve him because of the depravity of our current  culture ?

    Any thoughts, comments or ideas?

  • God punishes the church for the sins of the people.

We must do penance and live pure lives.

  • He has withheld a pope because of the faithlessness of His people.

  • “The most evident mark of God’s anger and the most terrible castigation He can inflict upon the world are manifested when He permits His people to fall into the hands of clergy who are priests more in name than in deed, priests who practice the cruelty of ravening wolves rather than charity and affection of devoted shepherds ...

“When God permits such things, it is a very positive proof that He is thoroughly angry with His people, and is visiting His most dreadful anger upon them. That is why He cries unceasingly to Christians, ‘Return O ye revolting children ... and I will give you pastors according to My own heart’. (Jer. 3:14,15)
If anyone says that true and natural water is not necessary for baptism and thus twists into some metaphor the words of our Lord Jesus Christ" Unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Spirit" (Jn 3:5) let him be anathema.

  • God in His justice does gives us the Pope and the clergy we deserve, and not the ones we may desire, until we pray and do penance and return to Him with all our hearts, minds, and souls.

This is precisely what we must be doing: "Return, O' ye revolting children . . . and I will give you pastors according to my own heart" (Jer. 3:14-15).
