  • It would be comparatively easy for us to be holy if only we could always see the character of our neighbours either in soft shade or with the kindly deceits of moonlight upon them. Of course, we are not to grow blind to evil

"the perfect complement to the Dom Gueranger" ?

Surely you mean to say Dom Perignon, my dear Ellison.

  • More from our friend "Ellison" on another forum... he seems to have the same obsession with "hate campaigns" ... reminiscent of Fr. Cekada’s own Quidlibet blog entries:

    Quote from: Ellison
Obviously, Fr. Cekada has come out with a masterpiece, and that's all there is to it.

As for the one detractor appearing in this forum (albeit under different names), I would advise everyone to be aware that there have been hate campaigns, as Giorgio put, against fr. Cekada in the past. This, however, is not uncommon for popular public figures in our country. Usually, the detractors are very few in number, not even a handful, and they share a common profile.

From the things I've come across on the web, it appears that the hate campaigners are mostly some poor, out-of-work folk who for one reason or another fell through the cracks in our society--nomads in motor homes, disgruntled associates, and the like.

Keep in mind the state of the country right now. Being out of work really does have mental and emotional consequences for a good number of people (who weren't necessarily altogether well off in good times), as one of my colleagues in our psychology department can tell you. And yes, obsession and a kind of retreat into oneself--with all the narrowness this implies--are all a part of the socio- and psychopathology.

Basically, what is happening, is that the object of the hate is actually a symbolic representation in the hater's mind of the hater's own inadequacies (can't get work, estranged from family, ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖity, etc.). Add to this a certain social isolation, and you have the makings of a "hate blogger" or a "forum ghost"--someone who haunts the forums like a ghost because dead as a real person.

The truth is that Fr. Cekada must be very well connected with the academic community, obviously because he is a scholar himself. If I have a colleague who respects him enough to send me a link to his book, then rest assured that there are other like-minded scholars in other academic institutions who are also taking interest.

Those of us who teach on the university level are always interested in other fine writers presenting new ideas or reflecting current trends in their work. Sedevacantism is just one such up-and-coming "trend." With the publication of Work of Human Hands, it is now in the mainstream. This means that academics, especially those in the humanities and history in particular, will have to deal with it in our usual way.

Be aware though that it always takes time for even the best books to get read an interpreted and criticized. I can assure everyone that this is indeed a work of considerable scholarship with above average research behind it.

In terms of research and presentation, I can assure readers that Fr. Cekada has surpassed the expectations we normally hold ourselves to in the university (we would probably do well to adopt Fr. Cekada's standard a little more).

I would definitely recommend the book.

  • If there is only one detractor in that entire forum, why compose four paragraphs in an effort to dismiss a lone disgruntled associate?

If Ellison is an historian as he suggests, he might like to take a look at similar former sycohants.  One claimed that DD had the demeanor of St. Pius X, helped DD expell an innocent family from the property, defended him with all of his heart.

Many of us were loyal defenders of the SW Ohio clique of Sede Vacantist clergy.  But this clique has always had its hissy fits and intrigues.

Ellison's psychologist colleagues really ought to study the history of this clique; it is a goldmine of passionate break-ups, changings of locks, mysterious illnesses and catty vindictiveness.  There is also a lot of money and property, and just the right touch of blackmail.

Go ahead and do the research, Ellison.  Start with how the clique developed in the seminary.  Do a psychological evaluation of The Nine , discover the pathology behind"popular public figues in our country".
