  • The longtime private secretary to Blessed John Paul II has insisted that the former Pontiff knew “nothing, absolutely nothing,” about the misconduct of the late Father Marcial Maciel, the founder of the Legionaries of Christ.

Critics of the Polish Pontiff have pointed to the close ties between Father Maciel and the Pontiff. Shortly after the death of John Paul II, the newly elected Pope Benedict XVI authorized disciplinary action against Father Maciel, who was eventually exposed as having lived a double life, abusing seminarians and fathering children.

But Cardinal Stanislaw Dziwisz, who served with John Paul II throughout his pontificate, says that the Pope was unaware of the accusations that had been leveled against Maciel. “The Holy Father should not have received that individual,” Cardinal Dziwisz concedes in retrospect. But he says that the Pontiff was kept in the dark because of failures of communication within the Roman Curia.

Cardinal Dziwisz also said that it is “insulting—I repeat, insulting” to suggest that Blessed John Paul II resisted pressure from then-Cardinal Ratzinger to take stronger disciplinary action against priests involved in sɛҳuąƖ abuse. Neither Pontiff should be accused of seeking to cover up “this horrible plague,” he said.

Cardinal Dziwisz has recently released a new book about his work with Blessed John Paul II. The book, entitled Ho Vissuto con un Santo (“I Lived with a Saint”), was launched in Italy this week.

  • John Paul II spent the last few years of his life in a virtual daze.  While he was mumbling and stumbling and blurring all his words, it's possible that he really did forget all the bad stuff.

I like to think John Paul II go the King Nebuchadnazzar treatment...  i.e., turned into a grass eater.

  • Well, santo subito! :barf:
"This principle is most certain: The non-Christian cannot in any way be Pope. The reason for this is that he cannot be head of what he is not a member. Now, he who is not a Christian is not a member of the Church, and a manifest heretic is not a Christian, as is clearly taught by St. Cyprian, St. Athanasius, St. Augustine, St. Jerome, and others. Therefore, the manifest heretic cannot be Pope." -- St. Robert Bellarmine

  • This is why the "Devils Advocate" during any canonization is
    indispensable.
I am sure the JP2 knew everything what was going on, and
chose to either to ignore the facts hoping that the facts about
Father Maciel  will never be uncovered.
The modernist theory is not what type of saintly Christian life
one lives, but the outward good he contributed to the advancement
of the new religion of the worship of "MAN".

  • JP2 should have been the "pope" who "retired" from the Novus Ordo "papacy".  Towards the last 10 years of his life he was feeble, demented, had no idea what was going on around him, etc.   JP2, other than being an anti-pope, was agonizingly pathetic and cowardly towards the end of his life.  He embodied the Novus Ordo to a tee: emasculated, demented, wholly without grace, and sterile.  Nothing good ever came from JP2's Novus Ordo "papacy".  Let's leave it at that.
