  • In the last century the Church made accomodations for people suffering in celiac disease and other gluten intolerances. But sadly, this happened after the council.
So this is my question: are low-gluten hosts valid? If somebody is a celiac, and wants to commune, is it licit to give him/her the Cup? And is it lawful to suppress the immune system of a twice-disabled person (eg celiac disaese with yeast (in the mustum) or grape intolerance) in the case that (s)he could commune? If the low-gluten hosts are invalid and giving the Cup to a layman is illicit, then I should focus more on my medical career. I wanted to eradicate celiac disease since 2009.

  • You should probably just ask your priest about it.  You might also want to look for advice regarding celiac on the health/nutrition board.

  • Maybe if you post a "question for celiacs" on the health/nutrition board you can get input from others in the same situation.  I don't have a clue what a traditional priest would do in that situation as I've not known anyone with a severe case of celiac.  They two who I do know do not have any problem with communion, but perhaps they have a milder form of it.  Good luck.

  • You don't have to devour the whole host just a crumb is enough.  but if you say you have no traditional near you, then are you implying that the host you are referring to are of the New Order?  If so, Jesus is not there.

  • @songbird I asked this consecration question minutes ago!
But what happens when somebody has wheat allergy, making him/her unable to commune with the Host?
So it means that I have to move...

With this information, you can discuss with a priest how to receive a small portion.  When you have the opportunity to receive, that is.  That does not happen often?

Exactly! What you are getting is wheat bread.

In a valid Mass you are receiving the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. Does This cause or exacerbate illness?

  • Wouldn't it be possible to receive just the Consecrated Wine?  Since there is a medical reason for it, I would hope this would be possible even at a TLM.
