  • It might cause a smaller man to topple! :laugh2:

  • It’s very sad that there are Catholics who are still duped and take this “bishop” seriously.
For what doth it profit a man, if he gain the whole world, and suffer the loss of his own soul? Or what exchange shall a man give for his soul?

  • Either that or it just looks big, as +?Pfeiffer is not a very tall man.  Perhaps he wears a large miter to persuade people that he's a valid bishop.

It's partly optical illusion, since +?Pfeiffer is not a particularly tall man.  But, even despite that, yes, that is a very large mitre.

Hey, the bigger the mitre, the more convincing it might be for some that he's actually a valid bishop.

  • Am I the only one who has an issue with Trad bishops using croziers (as in the video still in the OP)?

Croziers signify jurisdiction and even bishops with ordinary jurisdiction were technically only allowed to use it in their OWN diocese.

Arguably a mitre also symbolizes authority and jurisdiction.

If I were a trad bishop, I would use neither one of them.  Why do Trad bishops carry croziers?  Has anyone every explained why this is OK?  I've seen pretty much every Trad bishop wielding a crozier.

Crosier – The crosier, also known as the pastoral staff, is conferred on a bishop at his consecration. It is a symbol of his authority and jurisdiction. The origin of the pastoral staff is associated with the shepherd’s crook. It is employed by a bishop whenever he performs solemn liturgical functions, by right in his own diocese.

    Quote
Mitre – The mitre is worn by a bishop as a mark of his office and a symbol of his authority. The mitre is presented to the bishop during the Rite of Ordination of a Bishop. The proper color of a mitre is always white. The mitre is distinguished from other episcopal vestments in that it is always laid aside when the bishop prays at Mass.

I've read elsewhere that bishops may wear mitres simply by virtue of their Orders, but I've never seen anything where a Crozier does not symbolize authority and jurisdiction.

I have an issue with the sspx calling their priests "pastors".  Right in the bulletins...

"Pastor" implies jurisdictional authority, which they don't have.

I also have a problem with the SSPX putting photos of the diocesan bishop in their chapels.
