  • I don't think there's anything closet about it at all.  He announced (or rather, asked) the world "Who am I to judge?"
"Be kind; do not seek the malicious satisfaction of having discovered an additional enemy to the Church... And, above all, be scrupulously truthful. To all, friends and foes alike, give that serious attention which does not misrepresent any opinion, does not distort any statement, does not mutilate any quotation. We need not fear to serve the cause of Christ less efficiently by putting on His spirit". (Vermeersch, 1913).

Agreed.  Except for the closet part, the answer to the title question is in the affirmative.

  • "Grassi has consistently maintained his innocence. He told the provincial court in Moron that jailed him on Monday: "The prosecutors have lied and set up a case against me."

If Pope Francis was convinced of his innocence while he was Cardinal Bergoglio then he did the right thing in defending him.

I would have to agree with poche on this one. It is certainly possible that someone be a horrible judge of character and naive, but still be okay.

St. Celestine V is an example (not that I am claiming Francis was ever a true pope), but it is important to note this as a weak case for SV'ism. We do no service to truth, by just wanting to cry wolf where there might be doubt. First of all even if he was personally a ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖ, no one is claiming that the state of Sedevacante will happen because of being a sinner...

He is definitely an enabler by approving of Civil Unions, which is heresy particularly directly against morals (mortal sin). We take it by his own words, deeds, thoughts that he has expressed over time. The evidence is certainly weighing heavily against him, he knows that everyone thinks this about him and yet he does not clarify that "all those rumours are false." Or anything similar in that manner, this is a way that his current modus operandi is. Say something outrageous that the only interpretation will be heretical, and simply do not retract or make things more clear towards Catholic orthodoxy. Pretty scary...
