most forums i have been on numbered the posts so you know which came first, so reading it makes more sense.

Y aren't thye numbered here?

The posts in any topic are displayed in order, from the oldest to the newest. At the bottom of each post the time/date is displayed as well.

I'm not sure what you're referring to.

Just for starters, every post has a precise number. That's how the software keeps all the posts in order on the page. This post I'm typing right now is post number 536,306.

I too was lost when I read his op. The way I follow a thread is to look at the pages of how long the thread is. If the thread is new you would most likely be on page 1 or perhaps page 2, next go to the top of page 1 and scroll down reading all along, then go to page 2 and do the same. Some threads here have many, many pages because the thread goes on and on, if you don't want to start from page 1, then jump in anywhere near the end pages.
The pages are at the left of the screen just click the desired page you want to start at.

Not necessarily a "number", but a "Date/Time Started" column would be helpful sometimes.
