The Nervous Ordo isn't Catholic.
I was writing about the Catholic intellectual tradition (for example, Thomistic philosophy). I don't unterstand why you are commenting on the Novus Ordo.

How is an increase in number of abortions a direct effect of reducing access to abortions? (It was not longer available in every state.)  The expected effect of reduced access is a decrease in number of abortions.  That would have been a direct effect.  However, since that did not happen, there are presumably other factors involved.
Oy!
You missed the obvious point. People thought Dobbs would reduce abortions but the DIRECT EFFECT- sending it to the states, only increased the numbers and solidified law in pro-abort states.  Which is actually the direct result, maybe not the INTENDED result.

The word "result" means "a thing that is caused or produced by something else; a consequence or outcome".  Using that word is, in this case, an unjustified claim about causality.  The raw data shows an increase in abortions, it does not tell us the cause.  There are multiple possible causes that we could speculate about.

For example, the graph showed a downward trend in clinic-based abortions since the 90s with a slight uptick around 2020.  This downward trend could have been caused by an increase in home use of abortion drugs. (Soubirous made some good points about this upthread.) The uptick could have been caused by supply chain issues with the drugs as happened with some genuine medications and other products during that time period.  For example, I know a woman who intended to formula-feed her baby but ended up breastfeeding because the supply of formula was erratic.   Similarly women who might have otherwise chosen a home abortion might have gone to a clinic instead.  This might have happened in sufficient  numbers to offset a decrease in abortions due to lesser accessibility.

I am not saying that this is necessarily what happened.  But it is at least as plausible an explanation of the increase as claiming it was caused by Dobbs.

Try using your brain a little, maybe you'll figure it out.
