Title: Holy Communion for couples living in sin
Post by: cassini on April 16, 2016, 07:44:30 AM
Found this on a website. Any Thomist scholars confirm or reject this proposition?
Thanks.

"May I remind everyone to take heed and notice if your priest publicly approves of this “exhortation”. Remember:
To confect the Blessed Sacrament three factors are needed:
1.-Matter
2.- Form
3.- Intention.
Intention, like the former two factors, is critical. If the intention of the priest is to offer the Blessed Sacrament to couples who are objectively living a sinful life, the consecration does not take place. Study St. Thomas, your basic Catholic Theology.
You have been warned."

Patently false.  Any other questions?

In the bible it says that we shouldn't worship with liars, thieves and other hypocrites.

Yes, I thought so myself. That said I understand intention is necessary for transubstantiation. This person takes things a bit too far.
Moreover, his phraseology is a bit mixed up, for the consecration comes before the communion. The Idea of a priest consecrating the host with the intention of giving it to sinful couples is hard to believe.
Anyway, once consecrated it remains so until consumed.
The lesson, don't take all theology on Catholic forums as Gospel.
