Pope Francis on Sunday urged Christians and Muslims to promote mutual respect , especially through the education of new generations. His remarks came at the end of his Angelus address when he sent greetings to Muslims throughout the world who have just celebrated the end of the fasting month of Ramadan.

Pope Francis spoke to the thousands of pilgrims gathered in St. Peter’s Square about how God’s love is our greatest treasure. He said today’s gospel reading from St Luke talks to us about our desire for a meeting with Christ, calling it a key aspect of human life. All of us, the Pope said, "have this desire in our hearts, be it explicit or hidden." In St. Luke’s account of Jesus walking with his disciples towards Jerusalem, Christ reveals to them what is really important for him at that time. The Pope says Jesus’s thoughts include a distancing from earthly goods, faith in the providence of the Father and his interior vigilance while awaiting the Kingdom of God. This gospel account, he continues, teaches us that a Christian is someone who carries within him a deep desire to meet the Lord together with his brethren and his companions along the way. All this can be summed up in Jesus’ words: “for wherever your treasure is, that is where your heart will be too.”

Addressing the pilgrims directly, Pope Francis asked them two questions, “do you have a heart with a wish or do you have a closed heart, a sleeping heart, a heart that is anesthetized." His second question for the pilgrims was: “Where is your treasure”, what for you is the most important and precious reality that attracts your heart like a magnet?" "Is it" he asked, "God’s love which is the desire to do good to others and live for the Lord?" Pope Francis went on to describe how God’s love keeps a family united and gives meaning to our daily tasks and also helps us to face up to the big challenges. This, he declared, is the true treasure for mankind. God’s love isn’t something vague and generic, "it has a name and a face, Jesus Christ." The Pope said "God’s love gives value and beauty to every human activity" and it gives meaning to negative experiences. That’s because God’s love allows us to move beyond those experiences and not remain prisoners of evil but also be open to hope and the final destination of our pilgrimage.

Before reciting the Angelus prayer the Pope recalled today’s feast of St. Clare of Assisi who left everything to consecrate herself to Christ in poverty, following in the footsteps of St. Francis.
He said this saint gives us a beautiful witness of today’s gospel and she helps us, together with the Blessed Virgin Mary, to live it out, each one according to their own vocation.

After the Angelus prayer, Pope Francis departed from his prepared remarks to recall that this coming Thursday is the solemnity of Mary’s Assumption into Heaven and said on that day we will honour Her. He then said he wished to send greetings to Muslims, our brothers, throughout the world who have just finished celebrating the end of the holy month of Ramadan . Referring to his earlier message released to mark this event, the Pope said he hoped that Christians and Muslims will strive to "promote mutual respect, especially through the education of the new generations."

He concluded his remarks by greetings all the pilgrims and groups present and reminding them of the words which were the motto of the recent World Youth Day gathering in Rio: “Go and make disciples among all nations.”

• Sounds like stuff that Mother Theresa would say. Something else you see with the pro-life movement, they are constantly promoting Mother Theresa.

And you're out to lunch.

     :stare:

Do you really want to get me started, poche?

Yes, I think you do, because it would be uncharitable for me to just thumb you down for being absolutely ignorant, and fail to correct you if I knew what the truth was, wouldn't it?

"Whosoever does not continue in the doctrine of Christ does not have God".  - II St. Jn 1:9

The Mohammedans do NOT have the doctrine of Christ no matter how you slice it up, poche. They follow the teachings of an insane man, Mohammed.

Mohammedans vehemently and vociferously deny the Blessed Trinity, the Incarnation, the Crucifixion of our Divine Lord and the Divinity of Christ. The Mohammedans have such a carnal notion of heaven that St. Alphonsus did not hesitate to declare "The Mohammedan Paradise, is only fit for beasts; for filthy sensual pleasure is all the believer has to expect there."

It would be blasphemous to declare that these false religions are the working of God. On the contrary, ''all faithful disciples of Jesus Christ well know that the false religions are only instruments of the devil to deceive souls and place them beyond Salvation."  --St. Ignatius of Antioch, Letter to the Philadelphians, VIII:2

Pope Pius X long ago put forward that the modernist if they take logically there doctrine, would have no grounds for denying the Muslims there "experience" of " god" as being just as valid as that of another "believer" and hence he states:

"Here it is well to note at once that, given this doctrine of experience united with that of symbolism, every religion, even that of paganism, must be held to be true. What is to prevent such experiences from being found in any religion? In fact, that they are so is maintained by not a few. On what grounds can Modernists deny the truth of an experience affirmed by a follower of Islam?" --Pascendi

poche, I challenge you to look at these encyclicals, and honestly tell me that previous Popes (holy ones) have said that they're "our brothers," in the past. Your vociferous defense of Franny the Fraud is really shocking.

It would help your faith to read these encyclicals instead of posting the tripe you post on a daily basis from the novus ordo headlines.

http://www.papalencyclicals.net/Ben14/b14quod.htm

Here's a quote from Pius XI in one of his encyclicals on the Rosary.

http://www.papalencyclicals.net/Pius11/P11GRAVE.HTM

3. When the impious Mohammedan power, trusting in its powerful fleet and war-hardened armies, threatened the peoples of Europe with ruin and slavery, then -- upon the suggestion of the Sovereign Pontiff -- the protection of the heavenly Mother was fervently implored and the enemy was defeated and his ships sunk. Thus the Faithful of every age, both in public misfortune and in private need, turn in supplication to Mary, the benignant, so that she may come to their aid and grant help and remedy against sorrows of body and soul. And never was her most powerful aid hoped for in vain by those who besought it with pious and trustful prayer.

Here's a picture of what he was talking about.

I suggest you read the history of it yourself.

http://www.traditioninaction.org/History/A_001_Lepanto.html

Now, if after reading this, you still maintain they're our so-called "brothers," then I'm not afraid to say you're a hopeless case of a modernist, and I don't know if being on this board listening to actual Catholics will even help you.

Then it's an appeal to universal fraternity.  In other words, Fɾҽҽmαsσɳɾყ.  Not all that dissimilar from a few month back when he said everyone was a child of God, even atheists.  This man has a penchant for highlighting and appealing to entirely irreligious bonds.

To all, friends and foes alike, give that serious attention which does not misrepresent any opinion, does not distort any statement, does not mutilate any quotation. We need not fear to serve the cause of Christ less efficiently by putting on His spirit". (Vermeersch, 1913).

I doubt PFT or anyone else here would want a Muslim to convert to the pantheistic religion of Jorge Mario Bergoglio and the Vatican II mafia.

Back in my NO days, I was trying to convert a friend of mine. This was during the height of the pedo scandals (although I have a feeling we haven't truly seen the "height" just yet). Anyway, one day he finally asked, "Convert to what?" My little mission was over at that point.
"This principle is most certain: The non-Christian cannot in any way be Pope. The reason for this is that he cannot be head of what he is not a member. Now, he who is not a Christian is not a member of the Church, and a manifest heretic is not a Christian, as is clearly taught by St. Cyprian, St. Athanasius, St. Augustine, St. Jerome, and others. Therefore, the manifest heretic cannot be Pope." -- St. Robert Bellarmine

• Vatican 2 says that non-Catholic "religions" are stepping stones to the truth "Catholicism". It is obvious that they are nothing but a distraction from the truth. Catholicism survives only if it is practiced, and no one will convert to the truth if it is hidden under the pitch black veil of modernity.

The Vatican 2 church is not a stepping stone to traditionalism, it is only by breaking away from the apathy for God, the promotion of humanistic entertainment, the perspective that mass is nothing but a human celebration or social event, that one seeks after God in the true place..

...For one learns more from the silence than from the Vatican 2 church.

This is man-centered thinking.  It is even atheistic.  It treats the Gospel of Our Lord as if it were subject to "really smooth salesmanship."

Church numbers have done nothing but decline since Vatican II.

Poche's harkening to Adam sounds like communion with one another and the universal brotherhood of man and making this world a more gracious place is what is really important with the Vatican II crowd.  If they can do this with Conciliarism, so be it.  They just want to get that Earthbound graciousness and they really don't care which method they use.

Muslims deny the Trinity.  Catholics, the One True Faith of divine origin, says that God IS the Trinity.  Well, I guess the novus ordites are willing to at least cede that perhaps God was just using hyperbole to make a point.

Our Lord is the Creator of Heaven and Earth and our worship of Him is what He is due, so if we do not believe then it is not Our Lord's responsibility to prove Himself - This was done in the creation of the World and perfected in the Incarnation.  Muslims deny this.  So is Poche saying that the Creator of the World was just using hyperbole to make a point?

Muslims deny the dogmas of the Catholic Church.

Either they are right or we are.

I think Pope Francis' emphasis on future generations has a very ominous tone to it.  Catechesis is already very foggy in nature and even novus ordites bemoan this but can't seem to track the order to "go foggy" to their very own novus ordite leaders.  I say the vagueness is so that generations born between 1966-1980 will be de-Catholicized.  If some leave, the novus ordites leaders are probably glad because the ones that left would be hard to convince.  Then, with generations born between 1980-2000, the vagueness would be seen as "Catholicism".  The vagueness over a four decade span is to remove vestiges of pre-Vatican Catholicism.  Now, post-2000, and post-four decades of very vague and very bad catechesis, NOW we have a new pope preaching about how the Muslims are our brothers and we need to treat them as such.  This isn't to bring Muslims into the Catholic Church, it is rather an attempt at syncretism and blending of Conciliarism and Islam (although Islam isn't going to put up with that nonsense).

Pope Leo XIII considered Islam a form of idolatry and now we have "popes" congratulating followers of a form of idolatry for practicing a form of religion that is offensive to Our Lord.  Is it wise or spiritually sound to congratulate a person for continuing to offend Our Lord?

Other religions should never be mentioned except as a form of error and the "popes of today" (as the modernists call them) should use the same words of invitation to other religions as Pope Pius IX did at the beginning of the First Vatican Council.

• .

Saying that Mohammedans are our brothers is really
kind of Scriptural.

They are like Cain, for example, because they endeavor
to kill their brother Abel, who offered the sacrifice that
was pleasing to God, and they were jealous of God's
blessing on their brothers, but only worse, because they
use a dull saw blade and cut off his head, slowly.  And
then they carry the mark of being a murderer for the
rest of their lives, like Cain did, the mark of a demonic
false religion which Mohammedism is.

Maybe poche would like to show how friendly he is to
Mohammedans by becoming one himself.  That would
really make the point, don't you think?

• This is how real popes used to address the reality of Islam and Moslems; :furtive:

http://www.donparrish.com/EssayPopeUrban.html

Pope Urban II’s Speech at Clermont

This Speech Launched the Crusades
Oh, race of Franks, race from across the mountains, race chosen and beloved by God as shines forth in very many of your works set apart from all nations by the situation of your country, as well as by your catholic faith and the honor of the holy church! To you our discourse is addressed and for you our exhortation is intended. We wish you to know what a grievous cause has led us to Your country, what peril threatening you and all the faithful has brought us.

From the confines of Jerusalem and the city of Constantinople a horrible tale has gone forth and very frequently has been brought to our ears, namely, that a race from the kingdom of the Persians, an accursed race, a race utterly alienated from God, a generation forsooth which has not directed its heart and has not entrusted its spirit to God, has invaded the lands of those Christians and has depopulated them by the sword, pillage and fire; it has led away a part of the captives into its own country, and a part it has destroyed by cruel tortures; it has either entirely destroyed the churches of God or appropriated them for the rites of its own religion. They destroy the altars, after having defiled them with their uncleanness. They circuмcise the Christians, and the blood of the circuмcision they either spread upon the altars or pour into the vases of the baptismal font. When they wish to torture people by a base death, they perforate their navels, and dragging forth the extremity of the intestines, bind it to a stake; then with flogging they lead the victim around until the viscera having gushed forth the victim falls prostrate upon the ground. Others they bind to a post and pierce with arrows. Others they compel to extend their necks and then, attacking them with naked swords, attempt to cut through the neck with a single blow. What shall I say of the abominable rape of the women? To speak of it is worse than to be silent. The kingdom of the Greeks is now dismembered by them and deprived of territory so vast in extent that it cannot be traversed in a march of two months. On whom therefore is the labor of avenging these wrongs and of recovering this territory incuмbent, if not upon you? You, upon whom above other nations God has conferred remarkable glory in arms, great courage, bodily activity, and strength to humble the hairy scalp of those who resist you.

Let the deeds of your ancestors move you and incite your minds to manly achievements; the glory and greatness of king Charles the Great, and of his son Louis, and of your other kings, who have destroyed the kingdoms of the pagans, and have extended in these lands the territory of the holy church. Let the holy sepulcher of the Lord our Savior, which is possessed by unclean nations, especially incite you, and the holy places which are now treated with ignominy and irreverently polluted with their filthiness. Oh, most valiant soldiers and descendants of invincible ancestors, be not degenerate, but recall the valor of your progenitors.

But if you are hindered by love of children, parents and wives, remember what the Lord says in the Gospel, "He that loveth father or mother more than me, is not worthy of me." "Every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands for my name's sake shall receive an hundredfold and shall inherit everlasting life." Let none of your possessions detain you, no solicitude for your family affairs, since this land which you inhabit, shut in on all sides by the seas and surrounded by the mountain peaks, is too narrow for your large population; nor does it abound in wealth; and it furnishes scarcely food enough for its cultivators. Hence it is that you murder one another, that you wage war, and that frequently you perish by mutual wounds. Let therefore hatred depart from among you, let your quarrels end, let wars cease, and let all dissensions and controversies slumber. Enter upon the road to the Holy Sepulcher; wrest that land from the wicked race, and subject it to yourselves. That land which as the Scripture says "floweth with milk and honey," was given by God into the possession of the children of Israel Jerusalem is the navel of the world; the land is fruitful above others, like another paradise of delights. This the Redeemer of the human race has made illustrious by His advent, has beautified by residence, has consecrated by suffering, has redeemed by death, has glorified by burial. This royal city, therefore, situated at the centre of the world, is now held captive by His enemies, and is in subjection to those who do not know God, to the worship of the heathens. She seeks therefore and desires to be liberated, and does not cease to implore you to come to her aid. From you especially she asks succor, because, as we have already said, God has conferred upon you above all nations great glory in arms. Accordingly undertake this journey for the remission of your sins, with the assurance of the imperishable glory of the kingdom of heaven.

When Pope Urban had said these and very many similar things in his urbane discourse, he so influenced to one purpose the desires of all who were present, that they cried out, "It is the will of God! It is the will of God!" When the venerable Roman pontiff heard that, with eyes uplifted to heaven he gave thanks to God and, with his hand commanding silence, said:

Most beloved brethren, today is manifest in you what the Lord says in the Gospel, "Where two or three are gathered together in my name there am I in the midst of them." Unless the Lord God had been present in your spirits, all of you would not have uttered the same cry. For, although the cry issued from numerous mouths, yet the origin of the cry was one. Therefore I say to you that God, who implanted this in your breasts, has drawn it forth from you. Let this then be your war-cry in combats, because this word is given to you by God. When an armed attack is made upon the enemy, let this one cry be raised by all the soldiers of God: It is the will of God! It is the will of God!

And we do not command or advise that the old or feeble, or those unfit for bearing arms, undertake this journey; nor ought women to set out at all, without their husbands or brothers or legal guardians. For such are more of a hindrance than aid, more of a burden than advantage. Let the rich aid the needy; and according to their wealth, let them take with them experienced soldiers. The priests and clerks of any order are not to go without the consent of their bishop; for this journey would profit them nothing if they went without permission of these. Also, it is not fitting that laymen should enter upon the pilgrimage without the blessing of their priests.

Whoever, therefore, shall determine upon this holy pilgrimage and shall make his vow to God to that effect and shall offer himself to Him as a, living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, shall wear the sign of the cross of the Lord on his forehead or on his breast. When,' truly',' having fulfilled his vow be wishes to return, let him place the cross on his back between his shoulders. Such, indeed, by the twofold action will fulfill the precept of the Lord, as He commands in the Gospel, "He that taketh not his cross and followeth after me, is not worthy of me."
