  • Yes, that's the real Catholic Thanksgiving!  Given by the Spanish (Catholic), not the far-out whackos who left England for America because the Protestants wouldn't tolerate their bizarre cults.

Just think, any of those soldiers wouldn't recognize the New Mass as Catholic. He'd think he stepped foot into a Lutheran service probably.
He would recognize the Mass at ANY of our Trad chapels, however.

Nah, the NOM wouldn’t even be recognized as Lutheran.  Lutheran “Masses” at the time more resembled a Catholic Mass than the NOM does.

I'd believe that. Revolutionaries get more bold as they make progress violently splitting from the Original, or what they were trying to destroy.

You didn't have people daring to deny Jesus Christ's existence until about 18 centuries after his Resurrection and Ascension, for example. And in the French Revolution, many of the revolutionaries eventually lost their heads, condemned as "Monarchists", as the Overton window shifted to the left. The Revolution eats its own.

    Agreed:

There’s a Lutheran Church right by the SSPX chapel here, which features an altar ad orientam and “communion” rail.

To my knowledge, there’s only 1 Novus Ordo Church in this Archdiocese that does even that much (and that’s out of 188 parish churches, and not including many additional hospital or other chapels).
Rom 5: 20 - "But where sin increased, grace abounded all the more."

  • This is a beautiful depiction.  I am curious about a detail however, and perhaps someone more knowledgeable of the history of the liturgy and its rubrics than I would know the reason?  The painting shows the elevation of the chalice of the Precious Blood, and at this part of the Mass the missal would typically be on the Gospel side of the altar.  In this painting the missal is on the Epistle side.  Is there historical precedent for this, or perhaps the artist was just not knowledgeable of these details (not unlike today's journalists who write about things they don't understand)?  As I said, I am just curious, it is still a beautiful depiction and very appropriate for Thanksgiving.

Is it possible that the image somehow got flipped?

  • Fixed it, but then, we have the problem of not having the maniple on the left arm.

My money is on the artist not realizing which side of the altar the missal goes on during the consecration.

Hilariously, the same thing happened with the Puritans. Twice.

    1. The sect that sprung from the Puritans that merged with the Reformed in the 30s and became super SJW-y.

    2. The liberal wing of the Puritans that denied the Trinity

I doubt any Lutheran service back then was as embarrassing as the new "mass". I love this picture tho. I'd love to have one framed.
