Hallow data shows rise in OCIA, other Catholic ministries at colleges and universities around the country
CHICAGO, Aug. 19, 2026 – The fall semester at USC doesn’t begin officially until Aug. 24, but Deacon Paul Pesqueira is already preparing for what could be his busiest year yet.
Pesqueira has overseen the OCIA program at the USC Caruso Catholic Center for 14 years. In 2023-24, 18 students participated in the program. The following year, that number jumped to 25.
Heading into the 2025-26 school year, Pesqueira simply wanted to keep the growth trend positive.
“I wanted 26. God, in His infinite wisdom, mercy and generosity, gave me 44 students,” he said.
That marked a 76% increase in a single year, all without advertising the OCIA program.
“All of this has happened at USC with zero marketing. Nothing,” he said. “Always word of mouth.”
USC is far from alone. The school is part of a broader national trend of college-age people entering and returning to the Church.
Hallow obtained OCIA data from nearly 60 colleges and universities across the country and found a widespread increase in not only young adults entering the Catholic Church, but Catholic ministries of all sorts gaining popularity.

I know, the modern Church is reporting a large influx of converts.  My only question would be, are they getting the "real deal", or a watered-down version?  Are they being told that they can never use birth control, can't get sterilized, can't use IVF, can't have sex outside of marriage, and so on?  Are they being taught that there is such a thing as mortal sin (not just "grave" sin), and the three factors that make a sin mortal?  That they can't pick and choose what they are going to believe, and what they are not going to believe?

Catholics must work on reaching 100 MN+ soon in the US. If we do, we will never lose an election again, and ensure that Roe v Wade remains consigned to the Dustbin of History, and Abortion ends permanently. Among other things.

They convert people into the Newchurch, not into the Catholic Church. Hallow is a venture capital business, and is all about your "prayer experience", which is pure modernism. Its "nice chocolate feelings" Protestantism, disguised as Catholic. They call themselves a "meditation app". Look, they have nice "parishes" and nice apps and it's only $6.99 a month, what a steal.

No, don't look to these "trads" who get banned from PayPal talking about the Jews, don't try to waste hours driving to a Latin Mass. Stay with us, we can give you all the nice "community feeling" that you'd want. There's no contradiction, we're both equally Catholic, you see!

https://hallow.com/blog/10-million-installs/ - just read this and tell me if you think they care about giving people the actual apostolic Catholic faith or just about giving people a nice, emotional, pastoral "faith experience". There are these Novus Ordites who have this idea that all we need to do is to basically be smart in the worldly sense, so "more VC money = more advertising = more conversions" - "hashtag blessed". So they water down the message more and more to reach more people, until it becomes a "meditation app", because that's acceptable by the world - all while making their "Church" come off of as basically an NGO / startup grifting scheme. I've heard NOers rationalize this behaviour, the mental gymnastics they pull off are insane. Protestants pray a lot too, doesn't help.

I don't even think they mean it evil, they are convinced they are doing good, but they are just completely "dopey", as BpW would put it. They separate prayer from action and they forget that God does not hear the prayers of the unjust. The first step towards God is repentance and cleaning up your house and heart, not mumbling words and deluding yourself. It's worse than if their "converts" didn't know Catholicism at all because, just like the FSSP, they all think they're Catholic and yet they all accept Vatican II, NFP, Catholic feminism, immodesty, "annulments", leftism, etc. And then delude themselves that they can weasel themselves out because they think that the NO is "also" Catholic, so you can take the easy way.

Although God can certainly use imperfect tools, it's very hard for people to find actual Catholicism, if they get the impression that Catholics are all these gαy and effeminate types. It's very hard to undo that damage.

I'd guess the majority are getting the watered-down version, but some are jumping straight over to the TLM and for the others there are much worse things they could be doing than joining the N.O. I doubt there are Trads going off to college and signing up for OCIA, so I'd count this as good news overall.
