The first in-depth Pew research assessment of religions across India indicates the following beliefs among "Christians:”

    • 68% believe that there is only “one God”
    • 32% believe in the "purifying power" of the Ganges river
    • 54% believe in karma
    • 29% believe in reincarnation
    • 48% believe that religions [which contradict each other] are simultaneously "true"
    • 51% believe in the Last Judgement
    • 75% believe they know "much" about the Faith

  • I've heard that Indians are notoriously difficult to convert given that they believe all deities are manifestations of the same Atman or whatever. So this isn't particularly surprising to see.
"Be not therefore solicitous for tomorrow; for the morrow will be solicitous for itself. Sufficient for the day is the evil thereof." [Matt. 6:34]

"In all thy works remember thy last end, and thou shalt never sin." [Ecclus. 7:40]

"A holy man continueth in wisdom as the sun: but a fool is changed as the moon." [Ecclus. 27:12]

  • I wonder how it is like in Kerala? I have heard the Syro Malabar Catholics there are very devout and about 75% of them go to liturgy weekly.

Those are the ones who ordain men with no training simply because their fathers are priests. Don't trust them.

Please don't make statements like this as it's untrue

At this moment, all the Catholic Oriental Churches can admit married men to the diaconate and the presbyterate, with the exception of the Syro-Malabar and Syro-Malankara Churches. The canon allows the Apostolic See to establish special norms on the matter.
