Just for the sake of argument, was the situation with the Armenian ecclesial bodies of that time, one of clear-cut "you're either in union with Rome or you're not", or were matters less clearly defined in that part of the world? Could it be a case of his having been materially schismatic, but not having taught any doctrine contrary or contradictory to that of the Catholic Church? I'm not familiar with his work, so I cannot say.
