Furthermore, in order to avoid the perversion and confusion which might arise, if each one were allowed, as he might think fit, to publish his own commentaries and interpretations on the decrees of the Council ; We, by apostolic authority, forbid all men, as well ecclesiastics, of whatsoever order, condition, and rank they may be, as also laymen, with whatsoever honor and power invested ; prelates, to wit, under pain of being interdicted from entering the church, and all others whomsoever they be, under pain of excommunication incurred by the fact, to presume, without our authority to publish, in any form, any commentaries, glosses, annotations, scholia, or any kind of interpretation whatsoever of the decrees of the said Council ; or to settle anything in regard thereof, under any plea whatsoever, even under pretext of greater corroboration of the decrees, or the more perfect execution thereof, or under any other colour whatsoever.

  • Good for you for posting this.  Maybe this will finally make these private "theologians" think about what they are doing.

The approved theologians who were allowed by the Church authorities to comment on Trent all state clearly that Trent taught Baptism of Desire.

Those unauthorized commentators, mostly untrained laymen are the only ones pretending that Trent taught against Baptism of Desire.

So how come Mastaccioli-Spaghettiani got away with it?

Or, is this why he died within 3 years?

    Thank you for posting this!
Vatican 1 repeated this teaching when it echoed Trent, particularly the part in red above:
    Quote from: Vatican 1

Hence, too, that meaning of the sacred dogmas is ever to be maintained which has once been declared by holy mother church, and there must never be any abandonment of this sense under the pretext or in the name of a more profound understanding.

"Furthermore, in order to avoid the perversion and confusion which might arise, if each one were allowed, as he might think fit, to publish his own commentaries and interpretations on the decrees of the Council" is another condemnation of a BOD obviously because there are as many different confusing perversions of what a BOD even is as there are authors who teach it.

Ambr, please study closely that Trent teaches above that it is forbidden for anyone and everyone to attempt to interpret the decrees of the Council  because the decrees are to be understood as declared, as they are written.

CANON V.-If any one saith, that baptism is optional, that is, not necessary unto salvation; let him be anathema.

Thank you again for pointing out this teaching of Trent!

I believe the words "without our authority" have been missed by some here.

    Nice!  :applause:

All the Fathers, Doctors, Saints, Orthodox theologians and Popes who taught BOD did not do so without the Popes authority.  Or maybe they were all disobeying the Pope and writing what they wanted for the heck of it against his will.  Yikes!

The Popes taught BOD without their authority?  Really!?!  I think Feeney was guilty of that after he was excommunicated for his reprehensible unCatholic behavior of disobeying the Pope and not wanting to speak to him in person (all expenses paid trip to Rome).
