  • Does anyone know why Germany is such a big player in world events? I'm thinking of Luther, the modernist clergy
that were such a big part of Vatican II, WW1 & 2. Any articles, books, docuмentaries that try to explain this? Thank you.

  • Nothing scholarly, but as one who has just a dash of that good German blood (my son actually has more, Deo gratias, through his mother), I'd just throw out this much --- strong, resolute, centrally located (within Europe), fairly homogeneous, very intelligent, good at matters of organization, gifted in matters of science, math, and engineering (STEM Nation!), good at logic and philosophical thought --- in short, just a lot of good things that have all come together through the centuries.

And because of all of these superior attributes, they were a major threat to the jews and had to be vanquished.

  • Will somebody please tell the Germans to regain their instinct for self-preservation, and to dispose their unconditional obedience to authority that actually hates real ethnic Germans, and to shun political correctness?

  • His(der Vaterland) internalisations of his oppressors is certainly top notch and stands out most conspicuously among his EU featherweights. Disagreeing with a certain point in history is a crime. I wonder if saying women should stay home and raise children is not far behind in its unlawfulness.

More directly to the OP, this is a fascinating insight into why possibly Germany is called the "Land der Dichter und Denker":

It would be "what." And what is in parentheses.

  • Germany comprises most of what used to be the Holy Roman Empire.
    .
It is a large country with vast resources, most of all its people, who are intelligent, diligent, hard-working and serious.
    .
They were the most powerful enemy of Russian communism in the 20th century, so they had to be destroyed, sadly with the help of our own country.

Not really. As far as raw materials, nothing compared to the Scandinavian countries. Mostly landlocked and hence why they were starving(by design)in both WW1 and WW2.

I'm from the hinterlands of the U.S. My ancestry is mostly German with a little Irish, French, & French Canadian (I guess a few ancestors jumped the fence ::)). How about yourself?

Actually, according to Fr. Iscara, German philosophers have a tendency to lose touch with reality, as they build entire "castles in the sky". Just look at Kant and others!

It's like their (powerful) brain falls down a rabbit hole of its own making.

I still get a chuckle -- Fr. Iscara said to the class, "Now if you run off and tattle to Fr. [Wolfgang] Goettler about what I said about Germans, then when they send me to Africa, I'll ask for you as an assistant." He had a great sense of humor.

If you had to sum up Germans with one temperament, it would be: Melancholic. That is the temperament that specializes in details, organization, deep thought, etc.

I see why so many Germans paired up with Irish. It's the "opposites attract" phenomenon.

I'd hire a German engineer over an Irish one. But I know who hosts a better party!

I'm both, BTW. I can talk, because I see these traits in my own extended family.
