    It makes Goodbye, Good Men look tame.

    Rite of Sodomy is a hard book to read for a Catholic.  What I could, and still can't, fathom is how or why Our Lord would allow such things to happen to innocent young boys, many of whom have taken their own lives as a result, of have taken to a life of drugs and prostitution as a result of having been sodomized by a trusted priest or bishop.

    We need to trust and believe that God is perfectly good and merciful, beyond our capacity to understand, and that suffering is not evil in itself.  Too many people lose their faith when trying to unravel these types of mysteries with their limited intellects.  Only God knows what would have happened to a soul had they not experienced the sufferings they did.

    No, there is no reason to read these books, as doing so would likely cause nightmares and be a serious distraction preventing one from saying daily prayers. Thus, reading such an exposé would not be conducive to our own salvation.
