What is the scandal on the part of Pope Francis? He hasn't changed any church teaching on ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖity or marriage. When he was in Argentina he was athorn in Kirchner's side as she passed the immoral legislation. Do you seriously think that he sent in an application asking to be elected their person of the year?

To start with, the pope should condemn the magazine and it's staff, it's readers, printers, ink suppliers, stores that sell the evil thing etc.  in the strongest possible  language that a pope can use to remove any possible shred of doubt about where the Church stands on the whole homo issue - this is his golden opportunity to condemn them for the whole world to see.

Remember the axiom "Qui tacet consentit" (silence implies consent) - if, as expected, he does nothing, the presumption is that he has no problem with it - this is a (nother) grave scandal on the part of the pope.

I see Francis has taken The Advocate to task.....not.

I think this depends on context. If all you can say is "You are going to Hell." to some one entering the Church in good will then you might scare them away.

Here is the context:

poche, we do not allow those in open, unrepentant sin to "enter the Church" in the hope that they will feel good.  Anyone who knowingly extends the grace of the Sacraments to such a person condemns both their souls to Hell.  Does a hospital keep a person who prefers to remain sick with a contagious disease to treatment?  No, the patient either accepts treatment or must leave.  If a man announces he is a pedophile, do I welcome him to live in my home with my children?  I hope I DO scare him away!  You are in need of a reality check.

We do invite those in open unrepentant sin to repent. But how to do that and be effective? If we chase them away then they may never repent and they may very well go to Hell. Many times the sinner may come into the Church by a special grace from God. Then we have the opportunity to lead them away from the evil that makes them slaves to the Devil. Jesus said tha tHeaven rejoices more over one repentant sinner than over a hudred rightous who have no need of repentance.

Have you ever heard of absolution being withheld?

Who said anything about "chasing them away?"

The Church for many centuries would turn repeat apostates over to the state for summary execution, which was an act of mercy for them, because, well, never mind ― you wouldn't believe it anyway.

And if they abjure their heresy and are re-admitted into the Church, what happens when they revert to their heresy again, later?  What does the Church do when they go around sewing their seeds of derision and unfaith?  Are you aware of how heresy and corruption spread, poche?  Or do you think there is no danger there?  Maybe you think that spreading heresy is a good idea?

And what did Jesus say about one repentant sinner whose house is swept and clean ― when the demon who was expelled goes out and finds 7 other wicked spirits worse than himself?  What happens then, poche?
