The title of the article:  Pope Francis excommunicates pro-gαy marriage priest. He's not the liberal the media wants

It's interesting to note that the article goes on to say:

The docuмent might give no explicit reason, but the reason is implicit and well understood: Reynolds has offended Mother Church with his politics

So, we really don't know why the priest was excommunicated.  The author is assuming it was due to gαy marriage.  I think I remember reading about a certain priest that was excommunicated and it had nothing to do with doctrine.  It's probably a different priest, but excommunication doesn't always mean :  priest preached against Church doctrine, right?

  • It's a joke.  Ever since Uncle Frank said atheists just need to follow their conscience and that we should take it easy on baby murderers and sodomites, he's been doing a PR backtrack.  He's throwing a bone to the neocats.  Some dissident Novus Ordo presbyter from some backwards-ass nowhere that you've never heard of gets 'excommunicated' and people like "Father" Adolfo Huerta are in perfectly good standing, as is the "bishop" who oversees him.

To all, friends and foes alike, give that serious attention which does not misrepresent any opinion, does not distort any statement, does not mutilate any quotation. We need not fear to serve the cause of Christ less efficiently by putting on His spirit". (Vermeersch, 1913).

"President of the Assembly" never fails.
"This principle is most certain: The non-Christian cannot in any way be Pope. The reason for this is that he cannot be head of what he is not a member. Now, he who is not a Christian is not a member of the Church, and a manifest heretic is not a Christian, as is clearly taught by St. Cyprian, St. Athanasius, St. Augustine, St. Jerome, and others. Therefore, the manifest heretic cannot be Pope." -- St. Robert Bellarmine

  • Reynolds resigned from the priesthood to the "regret" of Melbourne Archbishop Denis Hart. After his resignation he continued to celebrate public masses after being ordered not to. That's the reason for his excommunication. It was nothing to do with his pro-ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖ attitudes. He could have got away with that.

Thank you.  I believe this is the priest I remember reading about (as this happened in May...but is now re-surfacing in the hopes of "proving" that Francis really isn't as liberal as the MSM is making him out to be).

He can follow his conscience but if it conflicts with what the Catholic Church teaches then it would not be a Catholic conscience he would be following.

So you admit that it does not apply to atheists AT ALL?

    Are you coming around, Poche?

But Reynolds would throw out Catholic doctrine – something Francis would never do because he is, despite the best wishes of so many in the media, a Catholic.

Wonder what else the article got wrong?

  • This priest was involved in a service where they fed what was purported to be a consecrated host to a dog.

"In August 2012, a visitor to the group’s woman-led religious service reportedly fed “consecrated bread” to his dog. Media reports at the time were unclear whether the bread was in fact the Holy Eucharist, as the priest’s involvement in the service was minimal. However, the reports led Archbishop Hart to say such a sacrilege of the Blessed Sacrament would be an “abomination.”
