  • I don't want to link to it because the source has some immodest pictures on it, but if this quote is genuine and accurate, then there's little question anymore but that Francis is a heretic.  I have defended other stuff he's said, but this would cross the line into overt apostasy.  I withhold judgment however on the grounds that people have falsely attributed stuff to him before.

    Quote from: Francis allegedly
Jesus Christ, Mohammed, Jehovah, Allah. These are all names employed to describe an entity that is distinctly the same across the world. For centuries, blood has been needlessly shed because of the desire to segregate our faiths. This, however, should be the very concept which unites us as people, as nations, and as a world bound by faith. Together, we can bring about an unprecedented age of peace, all we need to achieve such a state is respect each others beliefs, for we are all children of God regardless of the name we choose to address him by. We can accomplish miraculous things in the world by merging our faiths, and the time for such a movement is now. No longer shall we slaughter our neighbors over differences in reference to their God.

  • It is scandalous that it is not immediately obvious as a fake.  If someone had claimed that St. Pius X or Leo XIII said such a thing, nobody would have believed it for a second.

    Pope Hoax

There's a report circulating that Pope Francis said some shocking things to "followers" Monday. According to "National Report," the Pope told an audience that, "Jesus Christ, Mohammed, Jehovah, Allah... are all names for an entity that is distinctly the same across the world." He went on to place the Bible on the same level as the Koran, and spoke of "merging our faiths."

Never happened, but that hasn't stopped message boards on the lunatic fringe from railing against Francis as "the antichrist."

But man, I can see how people can believe it - sad as that is to say.

  • Were it not for the source, would anyone have a hard time believing that he COULD have said something like this?

I saw the quote first on another forum. I believed it was true until someone pointed out that it was satire.

  • Matto,
Is this the same quote that the video you posted is based on?
I didn't watch the video because I don't trust the source, but noted the title nonetheless.

First, where do you find things like this?  A quick internet search discovered only one source for this and that is the link above.  I've not seen this anywhere else.

Second, but this is the most critical, the fact is that no one, not even poche, can honestly say that when reading this he absolutely would not believe that this could not come out of Bergoglio's mouth.
