It's good that Fr. Heilman is trying to preach against error in his support of the Akita apparition. It does seem that his heart is in the right place. However, it should be noted that Fr. Heilman was at one time a participant in the charismatic movement. Even though he seems to have distanced himself from the more extreme elements, he said in an interview with Steve Skojec that...."I really believe that the experience with the Charismatic has at least opened me up to the possibility of the supernatural in this intensely secular world that we live in right now."
Well, we do live in an intensely secular world, but surely we already have proof of the supernatural aspect of our Faith from the Catholic Church of old - though Sacred Scripture and Tradition and the saints. What need to do we have for the charismatics - who seem to need proof before they will believe?
And regarding the supposed Bayside seer: it should be remembered that Veronica Leuken, through her supposed locutions, was a strong supporter of JP2, and she also spoke against Traditionalists who have their own churches. She said on Sept 14, 1986:
"We hear all names coming forward to our ears of churches being born anew, called the Traditional Roman Catholic Church. My child and children, we need no more traditionalists running around and creating new churches."
