Dear and Reverend Father,
If you wish to publish any of this email on your blog, please remove all references to the diocese (and perhaps even to [COUNTRY] if you think it is right).
An hour or so ago a friend spoke to a seminarian here in [PLACE]. Unlike many Seminaries in the rest of … and the rest of the world, the one here is full of traditionalists and is flourishing. The seminarian told my friend that ALL their internet access is logged and their incoming and outgoing emails are read. Those who have visited “traditionalist” sites have been warned that their chances of being ordained to the Priesthood are in jeopardy.
Our [bishop] likes to “keep in” with the trendies, although he’s not a trendy himself, deep down; however, the [important staff member] of the Seminary is a sworn enemy of the TLM and has publicly stated that the Holy Father “got it wrong” when he published Summorum Pontificuм. The [bishop] sent his resignation letter to Rome, but he has been kept on for another two years. Even if he goes, the Priests with real power are those like the [staff member], in a Diocese where – it is said – something like 90% of the Priests are communists and they do everything they possibly can to stop the faithful going to the TLM.
What can be done? Leaving aside the fact that spying on people’s email is technically illegal in [country], [It might not be if you are using the seminary's internet.] reporting the Bishop to the police would probably be the fastest way to leave the Seminary. Who should they report this to in Rome, and how should they go about it?
Thanking you in advance, dear and Reverend Father, for any help and advice you may be able to give,
Here is my tough love advice… and I’ll use “you”, because the men this is intended for will read it.
* Keep your mouths shut.
* Avoid using the seminary’s internet to look at anything other than neutral or liberal sites.
* Cough up the dough to get a separate “dongle” for data for your laptops.
* If several of you must pool resources to do that, do that, and then – discreetly – do the samizdat thing.
* Use your hand-helds or phones for surfing good Catholic sites.
* If you can’t find a way around their logging, or you can’t afford the data in that country (I know it is expensive), then either give up traditional sites when surfing or give up the internet completely!
Go silent and go deep.
Get ordained.
Back in the dark days of the 80′s when in my seminary to have a statue of Our Lady of Fatima or to say the rosary in public meant expulsion, I came up with the Six Rules of Seminary Survival. Where you are they may still pertain:
Rarely affirm.
Never deny.
Seldom make distinctions.
Smile a lot.
Say very little.
Never wear black.
In my day, it was as if we were officers-in-training, but in the military academy of the enemy. That seems like the situation there.
This is what you must do: learn what these modernist oppressors have to teach, parrot it back to them, and read good books on your own, with a flashlight and shades drawn if necessary.
And if you have to give up the internet, then for the love of God and His Holy Church give it up.
Get ordained.
Your day will come.
There will be time after ordination to learn the TLM and build up that dimension of the formation they are – contrary to the Church’s law – cheating you out of.
For the sake of that day, be quiet and make sacrifices of your desire to surf around as you will.
If you have to, you can – believe me – hang by your thumbs until your hands are anointed.
Do not, by fighting or reacting suddenly, give those… aging-hippy modernists anything to beat you with.
Once you are ordained, with a joyful smile and in charity destroy their life’s work.

I like your style. We need to expose these types through their own words.
Here Fr. Z openly counsels a seminarian to knowingly parrot back heresy as truth to his professors. He counsels him to stay off truthful websites to visit "neutral" and liberal ones. Tells him not to wear black, not make distinctions, keep his mouth shut, smile a lot, etc.
He, in effect, counsels the seminarian to become a coward and fraud just to get ordained.
And then what? "Destroy their life's work?" Have you done that Fr. Z? Does writing a blog while eating fine cuisine and building bird feeders somehow contribute to this mission?
The truth is that the seminarian is more likely to go from Modernist rector to Modernist bishop.
He'll then have to commit sins of omission, avoiding preaching the truth year after year waiting for a "good" bishop to take over. Then when the next bishop comes in, supposedly more "conservative" (like Wuerl) he can finally stand up for Christ. So he denies communion to a practicing lesbian and Buddhist, or publishes an op ed in the paper against gαy marriage, or reprimands a teen for dressing immodestly, he is promptly put on "administrative leave", has his faculties suspended for a 6 month investigation of impropriety, then reprimanded and sent to outer Siberia to live out the rest of his priesthood.
What a great life! But don't worry. He will earn merit in Heaven for suffering silently his whole life out of obedience right?
Then he dies and go to Heaven. Christ is there. He says...
"Did you stand up for Me in the seminary?"
"Well, I tried, but the rector forbade it!"
"Is the rector here?"
"No."
"Did you stand up for me as a Priest?"
"Well, I tried Lord. But my bishop silenced me!"
"Is your bishop here?"
"No"
"Did you stand up for Me in the remainder of your life?"
"I couldn't. I was following orders. I suffered my cross silently. They told me it would gain me merit."
"You have not carried a cross for Me. This "cross" was your guilty conscience, urging you to witness to the Truth. The bishop, the rector, were given their authority by me to protect and pass down the Truth. They had no authority to do anything else. When the rector taught Modernism, I waited for you to stand up for Me. When the bishop sanctioned you for doing right, I waited for you to stand up for Me. The many years in your remote parish, I waited for you to stand up for Me. But you cared more for human respect than for Me. He who does not pick up his cross and follow Me, is not worthy of Me. He who denies Me before men, I will deny before my Father in Heaven. Depart now you accursed to the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels."

If we will follow Fr. Z's logic, why not just be gαy? That will definitely get one ordained in some of the Concilliar seminaries.
Again, its this very naturalistic idea that we can somehow trick, put one over, or outsmart the world and the devil that pervades Neo-Catholic and Neo-Trad thinking. We saw something like this with Janet Smith, who wanted to lie to stop abortion. There will be no long term fruit from that. If I recall correctly, Pius XI condemend L'Action Française for reasons like this. These types do lack the spirit of the faith.
I remember reading a Pre-VII book where the author said that it is the liberals, revolutionaries, and the enemies of the Church who use the "ends justify the means" tactics.
Further, you cannot fight the the devil using his tactics. He'll win every time. You can only fight him with holiness and the Holy Ghost.

Would there be anything wrong with segments of the laity starting a seminary that is strictly traditional? Sure, this seminary would need to bring in some priests. From reading Fr. Z's website, it seems rather insane that the enemies of the Church are in charge of the seminaries.

Please, whoever is reading this, remember that you must NEVER LIE to get a good result. NEVER!
Do not lie to get someone to not commit an abortion. Do not lie to get someone to come to the Catholic faith or believe some fact about the heresies in Vatican II.
Do not manipulate someone against their will to do an act that appears holy or will bring about some good.
We cannot use the devils tactics to fight the devil. So simple, and we must believe that entirely.

There is a reason for Fr. Z's approach. He came to America after serving the Ecclesia Dei containment programme in Rome. He will by now be one of those priests outwardly full of enthusiam for the old ways providing it in no way challenges the new order. His approach always fits that pattern; do nothing to upset Rome and the diocese, learn to live with the reforms, keep a low profile and the conciliar church may have some room for you somewhere.

I was trying to find out about this Fr. Z - all I know so far is that he is a Lutheran convert and that he has a famous blog.

Because instead of getting into the trenches of the Lord's vineyard to humbly save souls, he jets around the world, glad hands and seemingly spends every waking hour behind a computer screen.
Isn't that what St. Paul did all day?
