Father Gregory Hesse, S.T.D., J.C.D. of Vienna, Austria was ordained in 1981 in St. Peter's Basilica. He held doctorates in both Thomistic theology and Canon Law. From 1986-88 he served as Secretary to Cardinal Stickler at the Vatican. From 1991, he worked in Austria, Germany and the United States giving lectures and producing theological articles that appeared in Catholic Family News, The Fatima Crusader and other journals. He died of complications due to diabetes on January 25, 2006.

Father Gregorius Hesse, for whom I have much sympathy, unfortunately shows the grave deficits of Novus Ordo theological education. While being myself only meagerly aquianted with Thomistic theology and (Canon) Law, I can only shake my head of so much error in the most basic questions of theology, especially Ecclesiology.

As usual, Fr. Hesse (actually Mgr. Hesse...by the way, he was never reordained after he left Novus Ordo structures) completely disregards the difference between private and public heresy, makes the Magisterium a product of tradition rather than a teaching office and destroys the indefectibility of the Church in the same time - much like the rest of the SSPX.

Then, on the other side, he does not seem to understand the concept of ecclesiastical law and the Pope as highest juridical power in the Catholic Church. He even says that Urban VI.´ changes in the breviary were illegal! I am sorry, but this is completely crazy. Strangely, he never says that St. Pius X.´ changes to breviary and Missal were illegal, too.

Interesting note: He said Mass according to the rubrics of St. Pius X., despite his affiliation with the SSPX.

An interesting work, but it was written and published several years before the convocation of the First Vatican Council, which formally defined and promulgated the de fide teaching regarding papal infallibility.

Reading this particular book, I thought my head was going to blow up. Following its arguments to their logical conclusion, it would be very difficult to argue that the gates of hell have not prevailed against Holy Mother Church.

You assume this work was contradicted by Vatican I. It is interesting precisely because it was written prior to Vatican I.
