    And they may end up saving the day, assuming one accepts the legitimacy of the conclave in the first place.  They might be able to block a two-thirds majority that would otherwise elect Parolin, Tagle, Hollerich, or someone equally objectionable.

    As I understand it, the cardinals only have to have not turned 80 by the time the conclave begins.  A cardinal who turns 80 during the conclave wouldn't be summarily ejected.
