Speaking of funerals, I may have missed the reason for this, but does anyone know why the celebrants at the Vatican funeral wore red vestments?

Is an empty Casket Funeral for someone who is having a normal funeral in a different country a normal thing or a weird novus ordo ritual?

My novus ordo family shared this with me today:

"Mass for Pope Benedict XIV at Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church- took the picture afterwards.  Priest and Deacon wore black."
I remember at the SSPX chapel I went to, there was a funeral Mass for JPII with the empty "casket" (it was actually 2 x 4 framed to size)

I found an article stating that Paul VI changed the practice of black vestments to red for Papal funerals:

It is a long article FYI.

Apparently there is an ancient traditional of Pope's being buried in red.  I found a picture of Pius IX as such. But the red vestments for the celebrant is a new thing.

I also found pictures from Pius XII's funeral Mass.  He was dressed in red but the celebrant was in black.

I will try and attach the pictures in another post in a few minutes.
