  • Sadly, most if not all NO "churches" do.
Please ignore ALL of my posts. I was naive during my time posting on this forum and didn’t know any better. I retract and deeply regret any and all uncharitable or erroneous statements I ever made here.

  • Seriously ?

A Catholic can marry a prot in an NO church and the marriage is considered valid in  the eyes of Rome ?

  • Yes, that is the case, as long as both the man and woman have been baptized at some point in their life. I know this from personal experience with some of my family members.

  • Wow. Is this something in the most recent Code of Canon Law ?

  • My wife was baptized Catholic and she married me; I was raised Prot and we were attending a Prot church (and headed to a Prot Bible college) at the time of our marriage. She had to get a dispensation from the Bishop, but we were married in a Novus parish (no 'mess' service, but otherwise a standard Novus wedding ceremony). That was in 2000.
This evil of heresy spreads itself. The doctrines of godliness are overturned; the rules of the Church are in confusion; the ambition of the unprincipled seizes upon places of authority; and the chief seat [the Papacy] is now openly proposed as a rewar

Not sure, but a cousin of mine was married to a 'Catholic' girl, whose brother was a Protestant pastor- the Catholic priest let him come up and give the sermon during the wedding

  • I would imagine so, though I'd have to check. If I see anything in the 1983 code about this, I'll post it, probably some time tomorrow.

  • It's true.   It was also tolerated though discouraged in the pre-Vatican Church as well. Then as now the couple has to get a dispensation from the bishop.  Prior to 1947 such couples would be married by the priest in the rectory rather than in Church.
My conscience compels me to make this disclaimer lest God judges me partly culpable for the errors and heresy promoted on this forum... For the record I support neither Sedevacantism or the SSPX.  I do not define myself as either a traditionalist or Novus

  • It was my understanding this has always been tolerated as being a lesser evil.

Tolerated and promoted are very different things though (I know you agree, just stating the obvious)...

  • I don't know what to say. I thought a Catholic who wanted to marry a prot, had to get the prot to convert before a priest would marry them.

Wow. So why won't the NO Church let a Catholic who married a prot outside the Church receive Communion unless he is granted the so called "brother and sister" arrangement deal ?

Reason I ask that, I have a second cousin who is waiting for his NO pastor to hear back from the diocese tribunal before he can receive Communion. He married a prot girl outside the Church and she won't convert. Supposedly, they are willing to live celebrate and sleep in separate rooms. They are older and have kids grown now.
