  • The definitive work on the life of Mother Mariana was written by Fr. Manuel Sousa Pereira in Spanish. At the present time there exists no translation of his significant work into English.

It has recently come to light that Marian Horvat did not translate that book. Instead, she translated an UNPUBLISHED third-generation copy of a copy of a copy written in Portuguese.

Does Marian Horvat even speak Spanish? Does she speak it well enough to translate a book? If so, why did she not translate the widely available book by Fr. Manuel Sousa Pereira which is in Spanish?

Why instead did she translate from a second-hand Portuguese translation?

She publicly brags about translating the works of the anti-Catholic heretic Plinio de Oliveira from Portugese into English, so perhaps that is why she chose an UNPUBLISHED purported translation written in Portuguese. Why does she mislead the public into believing that her translation is of the original work when it is demonstrably not?

Another thread, without any rationale other than yet another personal attack on the good Catholic priest Father Purday, asks whether or not he speaks Spanish. Considering that he has traveled throughout Ecuador examining the handful of original hand-written copies of the original work of Fr. Manuel Sousa Pereira, it appears that he does speak, read and understand Spanish well enough to point out numerous errors made by Miss Horvat in her translation of a translation of a translation.

  • Could Cera, (a.k.a. Trad-granny) have a demon ?

    Let's discuss it tomorrow...
"Some preachers will keep silence about the truth, and others will trample it underfoot and deny it. Sanctity of life will be held in derision even by those who outwardly profess it, for in those days Our Lord Jesus Christ will send them not a true Pastor but a destroyer."  St. Francis of Assisi

    Does Marian Horvath Speak Spanish?
Marian Horvath is the one that wrote the books from which the devotion to Our Lady of Good Success spread to the USA and became what it is today. Without her books, no one in the USA would know about the apparition. Why question whether she speaks Spanish? Is it just to parrot, Atila Guimaraes questioning whether Fr. Purdy speaks Spanish, because of his "apostolate" to change the name to the Spanglish, Our Lady of Buen Suceso? Yes, of course.

We'll, Marian Horvath did not come up with the title of Our Lady Of Good Success, it came from the priest scholar postulator for the cause of Sister Mariana, as has been posted here on CI many times. I, myself, read it for the first time here on CI. Here is a snip:

"This is fairly significant as this author, Msgr. Cadena y Almeida, was also the Postulator for the Cause of Mother Mariana de Jesus Torres until his death. He was a very educated priest holding a doctorate in Philosophy, History and Letters. He was the director of the Archiespiscopal Archive of the Curia of Quito. He founded at least six Educational Institutions in Quito. He had also received a number of awards for education etc. (btw he presented all of his awards to Our Lady of Good Success in a solemn ceremony on October 6, 1985).

He bore all the credentials of a learned man – someone who should be put in charge to do the work that he did! In other words, this priest was no slouch! I had truly hoped to meet him, but, unfortunately, he died before I could get to Quito on my next visit!

He, also, wrote several other books on the topic of Mother Mariana and Our Lady of Good Success, but this book was the only one to be translated into English. I think this particular book is an important piece of historical evidence as it proves and verifies that the Buen Suceso was translated, or at least allowed to be translated by the Postulator for the Cause, to Good Success

Horvat did not translate from the Spanish original. She translated a copy of a copy that was in Portugese.
