    .
Pope St. Pius X was canonized just in time. If his canonization had not been "fast-tracked" (for that time, anyway) so that it took place less than 40 years after his death, the Modernists who took over at Vat.II would have buried it and he would have been shelved for sure.
    .
As it is, the Modernists attempted to forget about him anyway. In 1966 his Oath Against Modernism which had been required of all seminarians from 1910 until 1966 was suddenly abandoned. It only lasted 56 years. Giuseppe Melchiorre Sarto himself survived 23 years longer than his Oath did!
    .
With the help of his saintly Secretary of State, Cardinal Merry del Val, the spreading pestiferous contagion of Modernism was defined, condemned and overcome -- that is, for a while. Its death wound would heal and the Beast would return, all too soon (Cf. Apoc. xiii. 3).
    .
He studied in the Padua seminary, the same area where the renown St. Anthony of Lisbon became known as St. Anthony of Padua, and he was dearly loved by his flock in the region wherever he practiced his pastoral care of souls. The children loved him because he was always so cheerful and engaging. He used wit and humor to captivate their attention. Italian boys imitated him on the school playgrounds. He had a tremendous effect on Catholics wherever he went. So it comes as no surprise that once he became Pope, loyal throngs of faithful Catholics continued to revere the very ground he walked on, but he was humbled by that and tried to pass it off. He always respected his fans and was gracious to them.
    .
It has been proposed that his parents were political exiles or fugitives from Poland, which would explain why he looks much more Polish than Italian. If you ask me, it also explains his unique sense of humor. They say that upon emigrating to Italy they were allowed to take on new identities so as to be secure from those who would have pursued them. The young Giuseppe grew up with Italian as his native language, but they might have spoken at least some Polish at home.

  • Help of Christians, guard our land from assault or inward stain,
Let it be what God has planned, His new Eden where You reign.

  • If there were a man with St Pius X's amount of infinitesimal zeal for Our Lord - even on his worst day - as Pope, we would be in much better shape. He is one of the greatest Popes, if not people, to have ever lived.
Remember O most gracious Virgin Mary...

  • My priest related that his father was a mailman.

Also, when he was consecrated a bishop, he visited his mother, and showed her the bishops rings. And she showed him her wedding ring and told him “you only have that ring because I have this ring”. A true testament to the sacrament of matrimony!
Please disregard everything I have said; I have tended to speak before fact checking.

  • Heard or read a long time ago that his sister or sisters took care of him at the Vatican and he paid them next to nothing, telling them they "had food to eat, a roof over their head, a summer dress and a winter dress so what more do you need?  The poor have nothing."
"Let God arise, and let His enemies be scattered: and them that hate Him flee from before His Holy Face"  Psalm 67:2[/b]

well, it is good to see someone in the Church care about the poor. Our current so called pope acted at one time like he did but I think it was all an act or something
