Well, with the loss of true Catholic devotions after the Council and the loss of the Old Mass, it seems that charismatic renewal gained a foothold. Catholics were, and still are, looking for the supernatural in some form. Charismaticism seems to have filled the void for some. Not surprising.

It's easy to "speak in tongues"-

"IboughtatoyotabutIshouldaboughtahonda"

(well... that's what it sounds like to me)
Papaya papaya, vroom vroom

The first (and last) time I witnessed this in the NO, I knew I wanted nothing to do with it.
