  • Catholic archbishop on Detroit diocese: 'We are a shrinking community'

In just 13 years, there has been a 50% drop in the number of Catholic baptisms and marriages performed in the Archdiocese of Detroit, Archbishop Allen Vigneron revealed Wednesday.

“We are a shrinking community,” said Vigneron, adding that other denominations and Catholic dioceses in the Midwest and northeast report similar declines. As many as one out of three people raised Catholic have left the church, studies suggest.

Which means that since V2, there's probably been what, a 90% drop in baptisms?

  • After Gumbleton, I'm surprised there's anyone even remotely Catholic left.
"This principle is most certain: The non-Christian cannot in any way be Pope. The reason for this is that he cannot be head of what he is not a member. Now, he who is not a Christian is not a member of the Church, and a manifest heretic is not a Christian, as is clearly taught by St. Cyprian, St. Athanasius, St. Augustine, St. Jerome, and others. Therefore, the manifest heretic cannot be Pope." -- St. Robert Bellarmine

This was what I was thinking.  At least they can sell their church buildings to the Mohammedans, though I wonder if they'll want them.

After all, the Conciliar church worships the same god as they do.

  • I also think it's because of people leaving Detroit like wildfire. It took the brunt of the damage done by the financial crisis and has only gotten worse from what I hear.

  • They did not leave the Church, the Church left them.

True.  But the Archdiocese of Detroit doesn"t consist of the city of Detroit alone.  A quick glance at the website of the Archdiocese of Detroit shows that it consists of six possibly seven counties.  That would mean it has shrunk a lot more than if you only counted the church members left within the city limits.

  • I hope that if the archdiocese must close parishes, that they go to a good use - maybe a Resistance priest or a good traditional movement. There are some gorgeous-looking churches from what I see on Wikipedia.

  • The dioceses went through, "restructuring".  Use that word to search and you will see what is coming or going!  Restructuring is the closing down of new order by at least 20% or more nation wide and they expect to merge parishes with one priest and because of this, they expect to see resignations, bring on priest who are outwardly ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖ, maybe even women.  There is no limit!
