  • Someday I hope to purchase Butler's Lives of the Saints, when I can afford it. That's a very good list of penitent saints. Saint Mary of Egypt is one of my favorite saints, but I've not ever heard of Saint Mary the Penitent. I'll have to look her up on Google.
I really love these books!  I saved up the money, and it was so worth it!  There are so many amazing stories!
Oh, I also forgot to mention one of my other favorite penitent saints: Saint Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Jesuits. :-)

  • Bad will and attachment to sin are the reasons they do not convert.

When you take into consideration that Our Lord revealed that many are called but only a few are saved, then it all makes sense. Jesus knows His and they know Him. (John 10:14).
    I know

But it is disturbing that so few seem to see any need of change. Malachi Martin (not sure he can always be trusted but at least once a priest..) used the term "perfectly possessed" to describe certain people who don't "foam @ the mouth" or whatever but are nonetheless possessed, perfectly so bc they are so good at hiding it and etc.. I sometimes think that 80% of the Democrat elite are perfectly possessed. There is no way a normal person can look @ all the info on abortion (which senators and reps have looked at ad nauseum) and still be as pro-abortion as they are

  • Not all are evil politicians who are well on their way to hell but blindness/ignorance also play a part

But we should never forget the first miracle of St. Theresa prior to the entry into the Carmel - when murderer P...was to be hanged and he showed no repentance. She asked for a sign from God and the priest went to the gallows, and just as they were hang him he took the crucifix from the priest and kissed it three times.

A man I know took 38 years to come to the faith. Others I know have become worldlings yet still believe there is a God. And we never ever give up on any soul who passes our way, as our prayers [poor as they] touch the Heart of God and could well in time save their soul. After all their must have been someone praying for us- and one day they/those dear souls will be revealed.

You realise that God is infinitely Patient and Merciful and we have Our Lady's intercession appealing for us.
    that was quite moving
i have to confess sometimes i just want some of these people to go to... well, you know. But when i think about it, when i come to my senses, which nowadays doesn't take as long as it once did, i realize all over again that i dont want my worst enemy in Hell. I assume u know St Faustina Diary 741? very scary... no human should go to that place

  • It's because hardly anybody preaches the ABSOLUTE necessity in the Church and Baptism to be saved.
If you go on MHFM's site, you will read about 1 or 2 conversions at least per week in their E-Exchanges.
It's not my intention to debate on this thread, just wanted to mention this.
     MHFM's

    what is that?

  • I am also greatly inspired by conversion stories!    ;D
There are many of them.  You just have to know where to look   :)
One of my most treasured possessions is this set of books with a life of one of the saints for every day of the year:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lives-of-the-Saints-Alban-Butler-5-Volumes-Traditional-Catholic-1936-/160547356860?hash=item25615e40bc:m:mhE4Gh7uly0ZXes4iQ7FX-Q
In it are explained the lives of many saints who previously led terrible lives but converted.
    Some of my favorites are:
    1. Saint Augustine
    2.  Saint Mary of Eygpt
    3.  Saint Mary the Penitent (Her uncle was Saint Abraham the hermit.)
    4.  Saint Clovis King of France (Married to Saint Clotilde)
    5.  Saint Mary Magdelene
This set of books I added the link to it the safe traditional Catholic version.  Be careful when buying other copies of "The Lives of the Saints" because many versions have been edited by the modernists.
well, it would be nice if we had converts from the 21st century. They would inspire young people and that is SO needed. Young people these days have serious problems generally speaking

  • Actually I reason wanted to kept details of the gentleman anonymous. But to answer your question;  this gentleman is my husband we have been married 45 years in May and he is close to 70.  It took 38 years of Masses/ prayers of friends etc to gain this conversion, but with it came the grace of holy death of his mother.
Thank you for that inspiring story.
I dont see how one stays married to someone who is not on the same page, spiritually.. I could not do that.. unless i myself were un-converted at the time of marriage (and the person is not abusive or a criminal, etc)

There are converts from the 21st century, and you can find them if you look and ask around.   :)
I once corresponded with someone who was converted because of an Ouija Board!  Lots of weird things were happening in their house, but only the Catholic religion properly addressed what was going on.  And after deciding to become Catholic, the traditional Catholic faith seemed to make the most sense to the person.
I have known many traditional Catholics who were once Protestants, and many lax novus ordo Catholics who became fervent traditional Catholics.
I think the thing is that most converts are not well known people because most well-known people are so far in  with the devil that it requires more penance and prayer in order to obtain their conversions.
That being said...  We should definitely pray more for conversions and the salvation of souls.   :)

  • I am a convert from the twenty-first century. I grew up in the Novus Ordo, then left the Church for years, lived a sinful life, and then learned about traditional Catholicism on the internet and converted and started to go to Mass.
    R.I.P.
Please pray for the repose of my soul.

I didn't know that St. Ignatius was a penitent. I'll have to read up on him, too!

"It is licit to resist a Sovereign Pontiff who is trying to destroy the Church. I say it is licit to resist him in not following his orders and in preventing the execution of his will. It is not licit to Judge him, to punish him, or to depose him, for these are acts proper to a superior."

It is indeed a challenge. I converted ten years ago, but my husband isn't Catholic. At least he's not anti-Catholic anymore. LOTS of prayers will be needed for his conversion, which I'm committed to. It's a good way to learn patience and charity, though I'm still working on that, and probably always will be.

thank you for sharing your story. I would love details but that's up 2 you, dont want to pry
I am very ashamed of my past even though i didn't do really, really hideous things.. abortion or that level of evil. Though o/side the Church, i somehow managed to stay somewhat Catholic. Then i discovered (rather accidentally) the rosary and that changed my whole not-too-Jesus-centered-objectively-speaking life
