    I am not a bible scholar, Far from it. I am a layman. But, I can tell you what that means in a basic way.
    The numbers that are given in verses 11-12, Daniel attempts to calculate the precise duration of the three and a half years. But, you can't take that literally. The first date which is 1,290 days passed, Daniel tries to make another calculation. The calculation contradicts the calculation in chapter 8. The main message is that it is not possible to calculate the date for the judgement of God. Mark 13:32 says so. If we took calculations like that literally, we would become like the Millerites which is what basically started Seventh-Day Adventism in the protestant world.

    • In the book "The Holy Eucharist" by St. Alphonsus De Liguori, Rev. Eugene Grimm Priest of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer Redemptorist Fathers.

    Paperback book 1934 page 22 states:  It is true "it" will cease on earth at the time of Antichrist: the Sacrifice of the Mass to be suspended for twelve hundred and ninety days, that is, 3 years and 6 months and a half, according to the prophecy of Daniel.

    Now more must be understood.  The Sacrifice of Jesus Christ will never cease, eternal sacrifice; for he himself is the priest and the victim. Eternal.

    The Sacrifice of the Mass on the earth is known as "continual".

    Also refer to www.traditio.com for the understanding of "antichrist".  Martin Luther is referred to as an Anti-Christ. (more than one anti-christ).

    There is also theories of prophecies, that after the Mass ending for 3 and a half years,  will be followed by a time of somewhat peace.  So, the anti-christ mentioned in Daniel maybe an anti-christ before the end of time.

    There is a book that tan publishes of Catholic Prophecies.  So, read carefully for there is theories.

    About a third of the way down on P. 103 this book deals with the fact that the Church alone interprets for us the meaning of the Scriptures and the dangers of private interpretation.

    Of course this does not apply to contemplation of the Scriptures which is encouraged providing we use the guidelines and teachings of the Catholic Church.
